    The Assistant Bursar is an integral part of the University Business Office team, working collaboratively with the Accounting, Treasury, Financial Aid and Registrar functions to provide accurate and timely billing of student accounts, management of student loan programs, and cash collection services for the campus.

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

    The Assistant Bursar reports to and works closely with the Bursar to administer the student accounts receivable and billing function at the University. Key duties include billing, collection efforts, coordinating placement for past due accounts to collection agencies and attorneys, and customer service roles.

    This is an in-office position which regularly interacts with current and prospective students and their families.

     EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only)

    • Works closely with Bursar to keep up to date on university billing policies, Federal collection policies, Federal aid policies, and internal policies and procedures.
    • Utilizes our Ellucian Colleague student information system and related technologies for student billing, including assisting with updates of billing rates and policies.
    • Coordinates with Financial Aid, Registrar and Academic Advising functions to assist students when needed.
    • Backup for the Student Accounts area management if Bursar is absent.
    • Follow up phone calls to non-registered students regarding past due status
    • Coordination of past due loan and tuition accounts to Collection agencies and Attorneys
    • Monitoring holds and separation dates for tuition accounts
    • Monitor status of accounts with Collection agencies and Attorneys
    • Other duties as assigned

     KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and college personnel.
    • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Ability to work well independently and with others
    • Experience with Federal and New York State financial aid and collection laws and regulations preferred, but not required.

    ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree in business related field 
    • Collection experience a plus
    • Higher Education experience a plus
