    Job Description

    As a part of Uncommon’s Data & IT Team, the Data Analyst will play an important role in the team’s efforts to effectively execute, document, monitor, and support processes that enable critical organizational data flows. Our Data Analyst will manage and process work that will inform the decision-making of other Home Office, regional, and school-level teams, with potential examples of partner teams being Development, Talent, Curriculum & Assessment, and College Access & Success. Ultimately, the processes executed and data sets managed by this role will represent a foundation for analysis and reporting in service of our shared mission: to provide an outstanding education that prepares students to graduate from college and achieve their dreams.

    Examples of potential processes that this role would execute, document, monitor, and support would include:

    • Fulfillment of complex annual and ad hoc data requests
    • College Board data processing and publishing (i.e. SAT, PSAT, AP)
    • Survey configuration and survey-related data processing and publishing
    • Knowledge base creation around key organizational data sets

    Data Processing & Publishing:

    • At a tactical level, understand the data processing and access needs of Home Office teams, working with them to understand process goals, relevant data, business process timelines, data collection and reporting cadence, relevant stakeholders and process participants, and reporting requirements
    • Within applications (SaaS or internally developed) that provide data for business processes, execute the work to prepare inputs, configure instances, build reports, test outputs, and respond to data
    • Create project plans, where relevant, for data processes that account for on-time kickoff, delivery, as well as accurate reporting
    • Prepare and execute end-to-end (spanning multiple environments) data processing and publishing by:
      • Clearly communicating process timelines and expectations to key stakeholders
      • Making, updating, and testing application configuration changes
      • Extracting and preparing inputs for processing via code
      • Quality checking, cleaning, manipulating, and merging data in preparation for reporting and analyses
      • Aid in the design, improvement, and generation of reports and presentations for stakeholders to provide core statistics and insights related to student and school performance
      • Respond to questions from process participants, help to troubleshoot with end users or escalate any broader issues as appropriate
      • Document existing reports and analyses with a focus on replicability and quality control
      • Regularly review data generated through the process and work with other members of the Data & IT team to suggest changes and improvements to the process and tools

    Management & Fulfillment of Data Requests:

    • Fulfill, document, and track data requests from stakeholders across Uncommon for use with both internal and external audiences
    • Contribute to and maintain the team’s online knowledge base/guide for data requests by pushing updates to articles once available and developing new content based on monitoring of data request needs
    • Partner with teams that submit a high volume of recurring requests (e.g., Development) to proactively identify upcoming needs and plan for reports coming due
    • Assist in conducting analyses requested by leadership and Home Office teams

    Team Support:

    • Provide administrative support to the team where needed (e.g., scheduling recurring team meetings, organizing team knowledge base and project documentation)
    • Commit to growing data skills in order to support the team’s core data reporting & analysis work as a contributor and project team member when needed
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Education Requirements:

    • Bachelors Degree

    Experience Requirements:

    • 1-2 years of directly related experience
    • 1-2 years years of experience cleaning and preparing data for reporting and/or analysis
      • Proficient in SQL
      • Strong skills around manipulating and cleaning data, either in spreadsheets or through a coding language
      • Can compile, analyze, and derive insights from datasets
      • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or GSuite
      • Proficient in Tableau
      • Experience working in the education sector with student and staff information data (demographics, assessments, etc.)
      • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
      • Excellent attention to detail
      • Solid work ethic and eagerness to grow through feedback and self-reflection
      • Strong organization, time management, and follow-up skills; ability to prioritize
      • Experience creating realistic project plans to ensure deadlines are met

    Compensation

    Compensation for this role is between $74,000-$87,000.

    Starting pay is determined using various factors, including but not limited to relevant professional experience, education, certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. If you meet all job description requirements, you will likely receive an offer of $78,300
