Position Overview:
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Data Analyst to support operational, financial, and law enforcement reporting functions. This role is based on-site in Jersey City and involves close collaboration with Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) leadership, financial analysts, and operational planners.
This is an excellent long-term opportunity (3-year contract) for professionals with a strong background in data accuracy, variance analysis, and reporting—particularly in law enforcement, government, or public sector environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Incident Report Review & Validation:
- Review incident and arrest reports to ensure all required fields are complete, accurate, and coded properly.
- Validate that each incident and arrest report has the appropriate matching crime codes and district information.
- Coordinate with commanding officers to correct or clarify incomplete or inconsistent data.
- Lost Property & Supplemental Reports:
- Audit lost property supplements to ensure coding and content accuracy.
- Address and resolve inconsistencies in reports related to lost or found property.
- Workforce Data Analysis & Auditing:
- Analyze overtime and regular working hours data.
- Perform variance analysis and identify trends in labor spending.
- Flag and report any anomalies, discrepancies, or areas requiring deeper review.
- Financial & Scheduling System Integration:
- Ensure financial codes are properly applied to operational tasks and workforce time entries.
- Validate that work orders and post IDs are correctly established in PeopleSoft and synced with Indeavor scheduling system.
- Cost Estimation & Operational Support:
- Assist with cost estimation for proposed operational initiatives.
- Provide data support for resource planning and budgetary forecasting.
- Ad Hoc Reporting & Data Projects:
- Respond to need-based requests for data analysis, auditing, and report generation.
- Deliver timely and accurate reports for internal leadership and agency stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in data analysis, auditing, or reporting—preferably in a law enforcement, transportation, public sector, or government setting.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing structured and unstructured data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, lookups, and formulas).
- Experience with PeopleSoft, Indeavor, or similar ERP/scheduling systems is a plus.
- Ability to interpret and validate data against operational and financial standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and coordination skills for working with cross-functional teams and command staff.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, criminal justice, public administration, finance, or a related field.
- Experience working in law enforcement or transportation data environments.
- Familiarity with public sector reporting standards and audit requirements.
