NEEDED: DENTAL HYGIENIST – Board Certified
LOCATION: One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417
SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with the exception of Federal Holidays, 7:00a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a US Citizen. We do not sponsor work visas.
- Shall have at least one year of specialized experience related to the position of Dental Hygienist.
- Shall be Board Certified by the American Dental Association (ADA),
- Hold a current certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency from an American Heart Association (AHA) course.
- Hold a current National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
- All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be kept up to date at all times.
- Technical Proficiency: Shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government’s requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
- Training: All training must be completed by the Dental Hygienist as required by the VA.
DUTIES - Not limited to:
Shall cover the range of Dental Hygienist services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art health care facility and the standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting, or exceeding, currently recognized national standards as established by: American Dental Association (ADA) Guidelines
- Sets up operatory for planned dental procedure and cleans dental unit for timely turnover.
- Handles instruments safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Provides routine oral prophylactic care to include application of fluoride solutions.
- Cleans dental prostheses, fixed and removeable.
- Provides gross debridement, deep scaling, and curettage and root planning procedures.
- Manages dental recall system, referring patients to the doctor for additional care when needed.
- Applies desensitizing and sealant materials.
- Makes impressions for fluoride carrier trays.
- Administers topical anesthetic agents. Administers local anesthetic (per State license).
- Administers local anti-infective agents per direction of dentist.
- Accomplishes all procedures within standard infection control protocols.
- Provides patient education appropriate to the veteran’s needs and oral condition.
- Prepares and provides individual and group oral health care instruction to inpatients, outpatients, and caregivers.

- Infection Control and Equipment Sterilization
- Assists patients in scheduling appointments.
- Assists in filling gaps in the schedule due to late cancellations and failed appointments.
- Chart findings, treatment plans, and treatment provided in patient records.
