    Job Description

    About the Opportunity
    The role of Deputy Chief of Instructional Excellence is to create, implement, and progress
    monitor the execution of the strategic plan for curriculum high quality curriculum
    implementation and instruction in service of improving academic achievement outcomes in
    conformance with organizational and state goals and objectives, and within budget guidelines.

    The Candidate
    Successful candidates must demonstrate a deep belief in the capacity of all students to
    achieve at high levels, demonstrate strong instructional expertise and have the ability to work
    collaboratively with a diverse set of leaders and teachers to improve student
    achievement. Additionally,
    ● A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Successful School Leader Manager
    ● A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Successful School Leader
    ● Preference will be given to candidates with experience leading organizational
    turnaround work
    ● Instructional expertise and experience across all grade bands, PreK- 12

    Duties and Essential Job Functions:
    The Deputy Chief of Instructional Excellence will lead a team who is responsible for

    providing coaching support to transformation primary schools and priority secondary schools
    via:

    ■Planning & co-leading weekly content team meetings in assigned schools
    ■Planning & co-leading weekly data team meetings in assigned schools
    ■Leading school-based practice clinics & teach backs
    ■Coaching APIs to impact with a focus on high quality instruction &
    curriculum implementation
    ■Supporting transformational school leader managers & school leadership
    team in progress monitoring actions that drive improvement in the areas of
    data-driven culture, curriculum implementation, and high quality
    instruction that leads to teacher impact
    ■Crafting and executing on school, regional and org-wide improvement plans
    in response to curriculum implementation data
    ■Implementing small group instruction during Crescendo season in assigned
    schools
    ■Leading weekly Coaching & Learning communities

    classrooms, and understands pedagogy that results in improved student learning outcomes;

    supports and interventions needed for individual students, specific student groups,
    schools, and across a targeted group of schools;
    ● Achievement-Focused: Sets challenging goals, demonstrating persistence and
    overcoming obstacles to achieve goals without confusing effort for results;
    ● Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive and difficult situations and information; in
    interpersonal problem-solving, decision-making and leadership skills; to communicate
    effectively, both orally and in writing and to manage and work with a team to
    accomplish mission and goals. Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive
    information.
    ● Continuous Learner: Researches a variety of information (e.g. current practices,
    instructional materials, methods, curriculum guidelines, etc.) for the purpose of
    developing new programs and/or master plans.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    ● Knowledge of instructional best practices rooted in the most current research
    ● Knowledge of curriculum selected by KTX and instructional frameworks
    ● Knowledge of general education, multilingual and special education
    ● Knowledge of federal designation grant requirements
    ● Knowledge of effective school-level and systems level strategies for acceleration
    ● Strong skills in strategic planning and communication
    ● Demonstrated expertise in developing a community of leaders and learners
    ● Experience in resource allocation for education programs, human resources,
    physical/equipment resources
    ● Effective collaboration skills alongside a variety of internal & external shareholder
    groups

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Required Education and/or Experience:
    ● Bachelor’s degree
    ● 10 years education leadership/management experience

    Preferred Education and/or Experience:
    ● A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Successful School Leader Manager
    ● A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Successful School Leader
    ● MA or other advanced degree in learning, organizational development, or school
    administration

    Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
    ● None

    Physical Requirements:
    ● Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed
    materials and information.
    ● Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
    ● Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone,
    telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
    ● Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement
    for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
    ● Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 25 lbs.

    Work Environment:
    ● Office, central office and school facilities

    Travel Requirements:
    ● Estimated 25% to regions within Texas
    ● Travel to various school locations within each region for on-site visits also required

    • The starting point for the salary range for this position is $245,000 and is commensurate upon experience and internal-equity.
