    Job Description

    AECOM is actively seeking a creative and highly talented Deputy Department Manager to join our team in Texas. The Deputy Department Manager will assist the Department Manager to oversee the performance of a geographic region, ensuring the achievement of client-facing and internal KPIs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Business Development:

    • Collaborate with Department Manager, Client Account Managers (CAMs), Practice Leaders, and Business Line Leadership to grow a profitable backlog and ensure financial success.
    • Assist in developing and implementing the Department Tactical Growth Plan, aligning with business line strategy and strategic growth initiatives.
    • Support decision-making on pursuit activities, including risk analysis, “go/no-go” processes, contract maintenance, negotiations, staff selection, and work allocation.
    • Develop capture strategies for key pursuits and major projects, ensuring high capture rates and business growth.
    • Serve as a CAM and/or primary client contact, maintaining deep client relationships and supporting team members in their client interactions.
    • Assist in developing budgets for successful business development, efficient tracking, and project oversight.
    • Lead initiatives to diversify client portfolio by targeting new sectors, geographies, and project types that align with AECOM's growth strategy.
    • Collaborate with Client Account Managers (CAMs) to strengthen existing client relationships, focusing on retention strategies and expanding the scope of services provided to key clients.

    Leadership and People Management:

    • Share responsibility for managing a department of approximately 40 staff across multiple offices and states.
    • Act as a focal point for issue resolution and provide rapid follow-up to address concerns.
    • Participate in feedback for Project Managers and technical staff to ensure client satisfaction and long-term growth.
    • Develop and implement succession plans for key roles and recruit top talent.
    • Ensure technical project delivery staff are trained and mentored for career development.
    • Coach project managers and team leaders on business performance and KPIs, implementing processes to exceed metrics.
    • Evaluate and manage the performance of direct reports and other team members.
    • Mentor and support department members, enhancing coordination and identifying future leaders

    Project Delivery & Operations:

    • Drive department performance to meet/exceed client satisfaction and internal KPIs (Net Service Revenue, margin goals, unbilled, accounts receivable, days sales outstanding).
    • Formulate solutions to client issues and act as a point of escalation for project problems.
    • Manage high-profile projects in a billable function and participate in project reviews to improve performance.
    • Champion consistent project management practices in alignment with AECOM Project Delivery System (PDS) and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
    • Interact with business leadership on governance and risk issues, ensuring compliance with the Delegation of Authority (DOA) framework.
    • Support the Practice digital strategy, driving the adoption of digital solutions.
    • Integrate international Enterprise Capabilities (EC) technical and administrative support resources into project delivery.
    • Ensure accuracy of Workload Planning Tool data, Salesforce pipeline data, and other forecast data.
    • Collaborate with other departments and regions to fulfill global project resource needs.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering in a relevant field and 10+ years of relevant experience, including 2 years of leadership or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in staff management, client account management, sales growth, proposal development, and/or technical work.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 10+ years of relevant experience
    • Strong knowledge and track record in the environmental/remediation business, including risk-based strategic asset management and advocacy in multiple state jurisdictions.
    • Respected people manager and successful team builder.
    • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Excellent active listening skills.
    • Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal.
    • Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations.
