    The Rescue Mission of Roanoke is seeking a passionate and strategic Development and Communication Manager to enhance awareness, engagement, and support for our Mission of “Helping Hurting People in Jesus’ Name” - those individuals and families facing homelessness, hunger, and addiction. This role is ideal for a relationship-driven communicator who thrives in nonprofit marketing, fundraising, and event promotion. The Development and Communication Manager will develop compelling messaging and content to connect with donors, volunteers, and the community while ensuring the Mission’s impact is effectively shared across all platforms.

    This team member will have a direct report within the Development Department with possible volunteers and/or interns.

    Reports to: Director of Development & Communication

    Hours of Availability:

    Full-Time (hourly)

    Monday – Friday, hours range between 8am – 6:00pm with hours adjusted to meet the needs of the role. Evenings, holidays and weekends as scheduled

    · Demonstrated attention to detail/strong organizational skills to assist with multiple daily assignments and special projects.

    Career Summary

    1. Development and Communication

    a. Assist in developing comprehensive development and communication strategies to increase community awareness and donor engagement.

    b. Manage social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube), creating compelling content that shares success stories, engages supporters, and drives action.

    c. Oversee email marketing campaigns, website updates, and digital storytelling to enhance outreach.

    d. Work with design team to create print and digital materials, including newsletters, brochures, donor appeals, and press releases.

    1. Fundraising & Donor Engagement

    a. Support fundraising campaigns, including annual giving, major gift appeals, and matching gift campaigns.

    b. Create impactful donor communications that inspire giving and long-term support.

    c. Collaborate with the Development team on donor stewardship and recognition initiatives.

    1. Event Promotion & Community Engagement

    a. Develop marketing strategies for key events, including Drumstick DASH, annual events, and seasonal giving campaigns.

    b. Coordinate promotional materials, media outreach, and digital campaigns to maximize participation.

    c. Engage with community partners, businesses, and churches to strengthen support for the Mission’s programs.

    Job Specific Qualifications:

    · Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in marketing, communications, development, or public relations, preferably in a nonprofit setting.

    · Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills; strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    · Strong organizational and time-management skills

    · Experience with Microsoft office and Google Workspace.

    · Knowledge of social media advertising and community engagement strategies.

    · Excellent writing, storytelling, editing, and content creation skills, with experience in social media management and email marketing.

    · Familiarity with donor engagement strategies and fundraising best practices a plus.

    · Experience planning and promoting events.

    · Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

    · Experience working with deadlines and able to manage multiple tasks.

    · Passion for the Rescue Mission’s mission of serving those in need.
