As The James Museum’s Development Officer, you will be at the heart of driving support for one of the most vibrant cultural institutions in St. Petersburg. This role offers the unique opportunity to connect with passionate supporters of the arts, develop creative fundraising initiatives, and cultivate meaningful donor relationships that help bring our museum’s mission to life. In this role you will have the ability to work remotely when appropriate and receive comp paid time off for hours worked outside of the regular schedule.
From writing engaging appeals to securing event sponsorships, assisting with grant writing, and developing innovative stewardship plans, you’ll play a key role in advancing the museum’s mission while working in an inspiring environment filled with art and creativity. ** DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- In collaboration with the Deputy Director for Development & Communications, implement a comprehensive annual giving program to meet fundraising goals, focusing on donor retention, acquisition, and upgrading.
- Write persuasive and impactful fundraising appeals for direct mail, email campaigns, and online platforms, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with the museum's mission.
- Identify, cultivate, and secure sponsorships for special events, exhibitions, and other museum programming.
- Create and execute personalized stewardship plans for donors to enhance engagement, build lasting relationships, and recognize their contributions.
- Provide support for grant writing efforts, including research, drafting proposals, and collaborating with relevant departments to meet deadlines.
- Work closely with the membership team to integrate annual giving strategies with membership growth and retention initiatives.
- Analyze and report on the effectiveness of annual giving campaigns and stewardship efforts, making data-driven recommendations for improvements.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure coordinated fundraising efforts across the museum. Stay informed of trends and best practices in fundraising, donor stewardship, and membership programs.
** SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Exceptional writing and communication skills with a talent for crafting captivating donor appeals and sponsorship proposals.
- Proven experience in securing sponsorships, cultivating donor relationships, and contributing to grant writing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, creative environment.
- Proficiency with donor management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, donors, and volunteers.
- Bonus points for knowledge of membership programs and experience incorporating them into fundraising strategies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or a related role—experience in a museum or cultural institution is a plus.
