Development / Product Design Engineer: The candidate will have the skills to provide engineering support for the development and design of rotating equipment used in industrial processes. Activities include providing innovative mechanical solutions using engineering principles and tools. The design and development work includes solid modeling, support of testing in a development laboratory and analytical/ analysis activities. The role may also include applying developed products to discrete application to satisfy client orders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop new products and participate in all phases of product development including ideation, design, production, and testing.
- Engineer and test product prototypes to evaluate product performance.
- Provide engineering support for the development of a rules-based product line(s)
- Participate in internal design reviews with all project disciplines.
- Identify potential issues and propose redesigning to improve functionality.
- Guide designers and drafters who capture design intent with SolidWorks.
- Check and approve designs/drawings for release to manufacturing.
- Understand and respond to internal and external customer requests, both verbal and written.
- Handle changes and problems related to projects assigned, while meeting project deadlines and budgets.
- Collaborate and develop appropriate solutions with team.
Additional Duties:
- Manage multiple priorities.
- Maintain safe and clean work environment; maintain compliance with all established company and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge.
- Support the consulting business and La Porte operations with mechanical engineering expertise.
- Write and develop project and/or product specifications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, and drilling of steels, aluminum, and plastics.
- Knowledge of machinery design including manufacturing drawings, geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and principles. Rotating equipment and turbomachinery knowledge preferred.
- Working knowledge in the usage of 3D Experience SolidWorks preferred.
- Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information; collect and research data; use intuition and experience to complement data; design workflows and procedures.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks with a diversity of problems.
- Capability to work independently without close supervision and to know when to ask for help.
- Computer & MS Office skills are required.
- Ability to control costs, adhere to a schedule, and improve the quality of a product / service.
- Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; look for ways to improve and promote quality; monitor your own work to ensure quality.
- Meet productivity standards, complete work in a timely manner.
- Adapt to changes in the work environment; able to deal with change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a small team environment is a must.
Experience and Education:
- A minimum of a BSME required with 10 years of experience.
