Job Summary
We are seeking a Development Support Professional to join our team. In this role, you will work directly with individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities with the aim of assisting the individual to become integrated into his/her community in the least restrictive environment. A DSP also acts as an advocate for the disabled individual, in communicating their needs, self-expression and goals.
Responsibilities
Provides direct assistance in self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills training, and improvement to individual participants.
Provides direct assistance with improving the access to and use of community resources by individual participants or group of participants.
Implements the behavioral support plans of participants or groups of participants.
Provides active support and direct assistance in participants' participation in community social, recreational and leisure activities.
Ensure individuals' health, safety and welfare, enhances the quality of individuals' lives, and supports community inclusion.
Completes and updates all daily, weekly and monthly records, reports, logs, progress notes, and medical records in an accurate, timely and professional manner.
Qualifications
Knowlege of acceptable social work, and interpersonal behavior.
Ability to understand and relate to persons with disabilities.
Ability to learn and apply positive methods to modify behavior.
Ability to maintain professional and respectful interaction with individual and co-workers.
Ability to work alone with minimal supervision.
Ability to write/type legibly in English in a clear, concise, and logical manner.
Ability to facilitate groups and/provide individual skill instruction.
