Job Title: Diesel Mechanic
Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and fixing mechanical issues on diesel engines, ensuring optimal performance and safety of heavy-duty trucks. This position requires expertise in diesel engine systems, electrical systems, brakes, transmissions, and other essential truck components.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brake systems, suspension systems, and other major mechanical components of tractor-trailers.
Conduct routine maintenance on all vehicles, including oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, tire checks, and fluid level checks to ensure the fleet is in peak working condition.
Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and system failures using computerized diagnostic equipment and hand tools.
Overhaul or rebuild major components such as engines, transmissions, and axles to restore optimal functionality.
Ensure all maintenance and repairs meet or exceed safety regulations and industry standards, including DOT compliance.
Maintain accurate service records for each vehicle, documenting repairs, parts used, labor hours, and maintenance schedules.
Work closely with other mechanics, dispatchers, and fleet managers to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
Qualifications:
In-depth knowledge of diesel engine systems, diagnostics, and repairs.
Strong understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems in heavy-duty trucks.
Ability to use diagnostic tools, including computerized equipment, to troubleshoot issues.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of federal and state safety regulations, including DOT compliance.
Valid driver’s license; a CDL is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move heavy parts and equipment.
Comfort working in a variety of weather conditions and environments.
