Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals for residents according to specific dietary plans and preferences, ensuring food is fresh, nutritious, and properly portioned.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure meals are prepared in a clean and safe environment.
- Assist in menu planning in collaboration with the dietary team, ensuring that meals meet nutritional requirements for residents.
- Serve meals in a timely and professional manner, ensuring residents receive their food at the correct temperature and consistency.
- Store food and supplies properly to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.
- Monitor food inventory levels, order supplies, and maintain accurate records for food usage.
- Assist in cleaning kitchen equipment, cooking utensils, and dining areas, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Maintain knowledge of residents' specific dietary needs and restrictions, including food allergies, texture modifications, and special diets.
- Participate in training programs and ongoing education regarding dietary standards and procedures.
- Work as part of a team to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations and provide excellent service to all residents.
Education Requirements & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Culinary or food service training preferred.
- Previous experience as a cook in a long-term care, hospital, or institutional setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and ability to follow guidelines in meal preparation and handling.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with staff and residents.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Compassion and respect for residents, with a focus on meeting their dietary needs and preferences.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work in hot, noisy, and fast-paced environments.
- Ability to push, pull, and move kitchen carts and other equipment.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination for handling cooking tools and food preparation.
- Ability to withstand exposure to various kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces, steam, and cleaning chemicals.
