Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Adult Crisis Therapeutic Home (DD/BH)
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) is needed at a Crisis Therapeutic Home for adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs (DD/BH) in Charlottesville, VA.
This role supports individuals through a short-term residential crisis stabilization program (up to 30 days) with therapeutic interventions, personal care, and skill-building activities. The DSP works collaboratively with individuals' primary providers, clinical homes, family, and other community services.
Salary and Benefits:
- Starting pay range: $16.54 - $18.00+ (higher rates offered to experienced candidates)
- Shift differentials:
- Monday-Thursday, 5 pm - 8 am: +$2/hour
- Weekend shifts (Friday 5 pm - Monday 8 am): +$2/hour
- Paid Time Off: 38 days total (Vacation: 12 days, Sick time: 12 days, Holidays: 11 days, 3 floating holidays)

Responsibilities:
- Assist individuals with daily activities, personal care, behavioral health needs, physical health, wellness, community engagement, and leisure activities.
- Monitor individuals for frequency and severity of mental health or behavioral symptoms and provide crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation supports in accordance with individualized crisis prevention and intervention plans, behavioral support plans, and overall service plans
- Participate in the development and implementation of the individual’s Crisis Education and Prevention Plan.
- Provide on-site crisis intervention and stabilization support
- Plan, structure, and prompt social and leisure time activities
- Collaborate with the home’s Supervisor, Assistant Supervisor/RN, Medical Director, Clinical Director, and other staff with clinical expertise on presentation of needs, behavioral tracking, attempted interventions, plan of care, and discharge planning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution required and one year of full-time relevant experience.
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License plus an acceptable driving record as issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles is required.
- The incumbent must be able to perform all essential duties.
- Knowledge of:
- Characteristics and service needs of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, behavioral disorders, language disorders, and other sensory impairments.
- Principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse.
- Adherence to existing professional ethical standards.
- Adherence to licensure regulations related to services provided.
- Non-aversive behavioral management techniques/crisis intervention skills.
