We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to join our team, in the Orange County, and Ulster County areas, As DSPs, you will play a critical role in enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will provide personalized support, promote independence, and assist with daily living activities, fostering an environment of respect and dignity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist individuals with daily living skills, including personal care, meal preparation, medication management, and housekeeping.
- Support clients in implementing their Individualized Support Plans (ISP) and achieving personal goals.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, ensuring a positive and encouraging environment.
- Facilitate community integration by accompanying clients to appointments, social activities, and recreational events.
- Monitor and document clients’ progress and changes in behavior, reporting any significant issues to the supervisor.
- Assist in developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with individuals, families, and other support staff.
- Participate in training and meetings to enhance skills and stay updated on best practices in support services.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and supportive living environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations and protocols.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in social work, psychology, or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience in a direct support or caregiving role is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with documentation systems.
- Must pass a background check and have a valid driver’s license (if required).
- CPR/First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained within a designated period after hiring.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and support individuals as needed.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to manage potentially challenging behaviors with appropriate techniques.
