Job Description: Direct Support Professional
Position Overview: We are seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Direct Support Professional (DSPs) As a DSP, you will play a crucial role in providing support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives and achieve their personal goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Person-Centered Support: Provide individualized support to individuals with developmental disabilities, respecting their preferences, choices, and independence.
Assistance with Daily Living Activities: Assist individuals with personal care tasks, including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and meal preparation, while promoting dignity and self-determination.
Community Inclusion: Facilitate community outings, recreational activities, and social interactions to promote integration and participation in community life.
Medication Management: Administer medications as prescribed and ensure compliance with medication schedules, while adhering to all safety protocols and documentation requirements.
Behavior Support: Implement positive behavior support strategies to address challenging behaviors and promote the development of coping skills and emotional regulation techniques.
Health Monitoring: Monitor individuals' health status and communicate any concerns or changes to healthcare professionals, ensuring timely access to medical care as needed.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of support services provided, including progress notes, incident reports, and individualized service plans.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, including case managers, therapists, healthcare providers, and family members, to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
Crisis Intervention: Respond to crises and emergencies calmly and effectively, following established protocols and ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals supported.
Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of developmental disabilities and person-centered support.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in human services, psychology, social work, or related field preferred.
Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities strongly preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build positive relationships with individuals supported, families, and team members.
Compassion, patience, and empathy towards individuals with diverse abilities and backgrounds.
Ability to follow instructions, implement care plans, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Basic computer skills and proficiency in documentation and record-keeping.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
A fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Service or eligible to obtain one.
Adhere to all scheduled trainings as required for the position.
Working Conditions:
This position may require flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet the needs of individuals supported.
Direct Support Professional may work in a variety of settings, including residential homes, day programs, and community-based locations.
