Our client is seeking a full-time Director-Electric Operations to join their team in sunny Florida! This role reports to the GM/CEO.
The Director of Electric Operations is responsible for establishing the strategic direction of the Department, including leadership, budget strategies and operational policies, identifying opportunities for improvement, and resolving any discrepancies to maximize the strategic use of such operations. The Director is responsible for the planning, directing, and coordinating of all transmission, distribution, Substation and System Operations, construction, maintenance, and operations activities through designated staff, consultants, contractors, other departments.
The Department consists of 45 employees in System Operations, Substation, Transmission and distribution line construction and maintenance crews, substation and relay personnel, field supervisory, and support staff.
Responsibilities:
Assess the competitive position in relation to the current and expected future business environment and plan for the long-term success of the organization to maintain consistent profitable operations and to meet the company’s vision and mission.
Responsible for the overall direction and management of the Department, including directing the priorities, people, and resource allocations, as well as conducting fair and honest performance appraisals, identifying and managing employee development needs, establishing and maintaining a safe, positive, and productive working environment.
Responsible for directing the activities of the Electric Operations Department to provide cost effective, safe, efficient, compliant, reliable electric service to customers, and to provide timely, clear communications of the business operations of the Department.
Responsible for preparing annual budgets for capital improvements, as well as preparing the Department budget, ensures the effective management of the budget.
Assesses our position in relation to current and expected customer and system load growth and plans for the long-term success of the organization. Studies, reviews and improve job methods, construction standards, and equipment utilization to improve efficiency and quality of service. Assures a safe work environment and works with Safety and Risk personnel to assure compliance with applicable industry and company safety standards and work procedures.
Provides guidance and direction in the preparation for electric rate development, and KPIs. Compiles reports relating to the performance of the Department.
Works with the Engineering Department to continually review outage data and discuss short and long-term system (transmission, distribution and substation) improvements to improve system reliability and resiliency.
Provides direction in the preparation of training and safety programs, with coordination from the Manager, Safety & Risk, for the Electric Department.
Coordinates with Compliance Manager to ensure that Electric Operations is meeting all applicable NERC, SERC, FRCC and State of Florida compliance rules, regulations and standards.
Provides direction in the preparation of research and evaluations to make recommendations to the GM/CEO regarding the establishment of new infrastructure for Electric Operations.
Represents the company in industry trade associations (FEE, FMPA, FMEA, APPA).
A successful candidate should have a BSEE and 10+ years of progressive leadership responsibilities.
