DIRECTOR OF NURSING
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Director of Nursing is a full-time employee and is directly responsible for the supervision of clinical services of the PPEC. The Director of Nursing utilizes the nursing process to provide for continuity of nursing care. She/he supervises and coordinates the children's needs based on assessment data and implements a plan for optimum quality of care. The Director of Nursing demonstrates the core nursing competencies established by Kerrington’s Care Academy, Inc to ensure effective and efficient care on an ongoing basis. She/he is responsible for maintaining compliance with all Federal and State regulations and ensures compliance with company's policies and procedures. The Director of Nursing is available on the premises of the Center during the hours when services are being provided.
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND CAPABILTIES:

Ability to perform managerial functions of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling.
Ability to represent the Center in the community and at formal functions.
Ability to act professionally as a crisis handler, decision maker, and problem solver.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
MUST grow center by 1 child a month, until capacity. Manage the daily operation of the Center as the Administrator.
Enforces and demonstrates compliance with all State and Federal regulations, Medicaid Regulations, and Kerrington’s Care Academy, Inc policies and procedures; Organizes and directs the clinical operations of the Center; Directs the provision and quality of nursing services provided to individuals; Supervises all nursing staff and unlicensed assistive personnel;
Maintains contact with Center’s Medical Case Manager and individual's primary health care provider at the least every 90 days and more often, as needed, and shall document the contact in the individual's medical record;
Perform patient admissions including establishing individualized Plans of Care and Re-certification process obtaining Prior Authorizations from payer sources. Ensures the individual's Plan of Care is executed as written by the physician; Ensures timely and accurate documentation in the individual's medical record are complete and maintain. Ensures coordination of care and services among multi-disciplinary team members and physicians;
Assure that all standards of care are being met and maintain quality patient care.
Shall develop, coordinate and implement written goals and objectives, standards of practice, policies and procedures and an organizational plan for the nursing service and shall address at the minimum:
The assessment of the individual's health service needs; Ongoing observation and monitoring of the individual's condition; Notification of the Administrator it there is a significant change in the individual's health status.
The assessment and implementation of the individual's need for referral to the individual's primary health care provider and/or specialist;
The maintenance of records as per Kerrington’s Care Academy, Inc.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
MUST grow center by 1 child a month, until capacity.
Provide oversight to ADON in developing, scheduling and document in-service training for staff, parents and guardians and appropriate programs for staff development including orientation and CPR.
Provide oversight to ADON to maintain records, review and direct action necessary:
Accident/unusual incidents.
Infection control.
Human resources files.
Develop quality assurance program, review reports, serve as consultant to the team, and direct implementation of necessary revisions.
Oversee the patient transportation program assigned to the Assistant DON.
Enforces and demonstrates compliance with all State and Federal regulations, Medicaid Regulations, and Kerrington’s Care Academy, Inc policies and procedures;
Assists Assistant Director Of Nursing with: Staff development, in-services and continuing education; Staff performance review; Progressive discipline and counseling of Center staff; Compliance and participation in the continuing quality improvement and utilization review; Appropriate daily Center staffing with an adequate number of qualified personnel and/or independent contractors to meet state specific guidelines;
Other duties as assigned by the Center Administrator/Owner.
Competencies, Education and Credentials:
The Director of Nursing shall be a registered professional nurse and have the following qualifications:
Hold a current Florida registered nurse license; Hold a current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); Have a minimum of two years general pediatric nursing experience of which at least six months shall have been spent caring for medically fragile infants or children in a pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, PPEC or similar care setting during the past five years; Demonstrates adequate knowledge of home ventilators, apnea monitors, oxygen, trachs/trach care and suctioning, special feedings, G-tubes, N/G tubes and IV's; Evidence of negative TB skin test or chest x-ray; Pass Level II criminal background check; and Nursing supervision and/or administration experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, lift or assist in lifting an individual; Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, squat and generally demonstrate flexibility to meet the care needs of individuals; Must be able to see with visual and listen with hearing acuity to appropriately monitor individual's and associated medical equipment; Must have strength and manual dexterity, including grasping and manipulating small objects, to operate medical equipment appropriately; and Must be able to respond in emergency situations.
