The Director of Nursing is accountable for planning, developing, overseeing and supervising the activities of personnel who provide health care and nursing services to the agency’s clients. The position establishes service policies and procedures regarding occupational safety and health, universal precautions and infection control policies as well as coordinates the development and implementation of nursing services and objectives, develops policies and procedures in accordance with Federal, State and DHSR standards and regulations.
The Director of Nursing under the direction of the Owner will have the responsibility for selecting nursing staff (RN’s,PCA’s/CNA’s), orienting and onboarding staff members, coordinating patient care services, provide and direct continuing education as well as skills verification for nursing staff, maintain compliance for nursing staff, complete employee appraisals and resolve issues involving employee disciplinary action and client care.
The Director of Nursing will perform a wide range of duties including maintaining department budgets, setting short term and long term goals for nursing staff as well as record keeping processes of criteria for admission to service as well as ongoing care management and case assignments.
The Director of Nursing must have a proven experience in a nursing leadership role, outstanding organizational skills, in-depth knowledge of healthcare and strong interpersonal communication skills.
The Director of Nursing will assist with conducting client assessments, re-assessments, supervisory visits and development of client plans of care.
The Director of Nursing will confer with clients, their families, social workers, case managers or others on an occasional basis to discuss client care needs.
Director of Nursing Responsibilities
Managing and leading all daily operations for nursing personnel and the nursing department
Maintains department budgets and records all expenses
Developing short-term and long-term goals for the entire nursing department including setting and tracking departmental goals and objectives.
Works closely with scheduler to set nursing staff schedules appropriately
Establish new policies and updates existing policies to improve the standard of care for clients
Plans and oversees admission, nursing and client care processes
Assists with conducting new client assessments/intake, re-assessments and development of Plan of Care as well as revisions to Plan of Care as deemed necessary
Drafts clients Service Agreements
Counsel’s clients and families in meeting nursing and related needs
Responds to any nursing - related issues in a timely manner
Investigates client complaints and reports and records accordingly
Collaborates with nursing staff as well as referring agency staff to ensure safe and efficient client care
Oversees all record-keeping processes and ensuring all necessary documents are accurate and up to date
Hires, onboards and trains new nursing staff members
Evaluates staff performance and prepares accurate reports detailing findings for evaluations
Maintains stocked inventory
Designs and manages continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives
Completes monthly client chart audits to ensure compliance with state and federal laws
Ensures that all Federal, State and DHSR guidelines and standards are followed
Assures proper maintenance of clinical records in compliance with local, state and federal laws (HIPAA/OSHA Compliance)
Maintains and ensures compliance for nursing staff (credentialing)
Uses popular software, including medical database, EMR, research and telemedicine software as appropriate.
Plan and implements in-service and training programs to ensure maintenance of compliance as well as high quality care delivery from nursing staff
Responsible for staff development including specialized training for clients with Dementia, ALS, COPD as well as other chronic disease states.
Stays informed about changes in the field of nursing and home health care and shares information with appropriate organization personnel
Promotes the agency philosophy and administrative policies to ensure quality of care delivery
Must have the ability to demonstrate solid judgment and discretion and a sense of understanding and urgency for prioritization
Requires the ability to prioritize and complete work on time, be detail - oriented, exhibit a service orientation to both staff and clients and be a professional team player with a positive attitude
Must have a proven experience in a nursing leadership role, outstanding organizational skills as well as strong interpersonal communication skills

Will have on call responsibility for after hours and weekends Director of Nursing Requirements
Registered Nurse with current unencumbered licensure to practice professional nursing in the state of North Carolina
Minimum of five years of clinical experience with two to three years working in Home Health or related health care organization
Minimum of five years of direct employee supervision, including both exempt and non-exempt personnel
Minimum of five years’ experience in similar supervising role
Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct staff
Excels in relationship building and has strong leadership as well as strong interpersonal skills
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
In-depth knowledge of legal policies and regulations in the healthcare industry
In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance & State requirements
In-depth knowledge of Federal regulatory compliance but not limited to HIPAA,OSHA

BLS and ACLS certified
