The Director of Surgical Services will lead the perioperative team, prioritizing safe patient care and effectively managing operations. This role carries 24/7 responsibility for the surgical services department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and address real or potential issues affecting service, implementing solutions with clear follow-up and communication.
- Actively participate in departmental, service, and hospital-wide committees, ensuring ongoing communication with stakeholders.
- Enhance the customer experience within Surgical Services.
- Provide coaching and feedback to team members, facilitating their professional development and documenting performance.
- Ensure adherence to all Human Resource policies.
- Communicate departmental, organizational, and industry information effectively to staff.
- Promote evidence-based practices for employee engagement.
- Build strong relationships and networks to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
- Conduct employee and patient rounding, identifying and mentoring potential future leaders.
- Enforce standards of care in surgical services and develop processes to ensure compliance.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive surgical services program aligned with the hospital's mission to ensure quality patient care.
- Monitor compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policies, focusing on safety and environmental standards.
- Oversee a performance improvement program that evaluates critical aspects of care.
- Ensure operational excellence by delivering quality services in line with applicable policies and professional standards.
- Adhere to the Hospital Exposure Control Plans regarding bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Enforce safe procedural site and patient verification policies.
- Monitor and respond to quality event reporting.
- Support the development of new program strategies and enhancements to expand patient services.
- Develop, prioritize, and justify capital equipment requests.
- Manage the department’s finances, ensuring efficient use of the organization’s resources.
- Drive growth initiatives for Surgical Services, aiming to be the OR of choice for physicians, patients, staff, and payers in the community.
- Demonstrate a confident and composed demeanor that reassures stakeholders and commands respect within the organization and community.
- Build strategic internal and external networks to foster collaboration.
- Promote consistent, positive patient interactions to enhance the overall patient service experience.
- Uphold the organization's "Code of Conduct" and align with its mission and values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum education of BSN (MSN preferred).
- Current RN license in the State of California.
- Experience as an OR Director or in a managerial role in high-volume surgical settings preferred.
- Ability to work in surgical settings (ability to wear scrubs and actively participate in procedures).
Skills and Certifications:
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Proficient in operational management and quality improvement.
- Ability to develop and mentor staff effectively.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and safety standards in healthcare.
