  • Responsibilities

    Position Summary: The Director of Accounting and Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial management and accounting functions of the credit union. This includes managing financial reporting, budgeting, regulatory compliance, investment portfolio management, asset liability management and ensuring the credit union’s financial health. The role involves leading a team of accounting professionals, implementing best practices, and aligning financial strategies with organizational goals.

    · Staff Accountant

    · Senior Accountant

    · Senior Financial Analyst

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    Financial Management and Reporting:

    · Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with GAAP and NCUA regulations.

    · Develop and manage the annual budget and periodic forecasting processes.

    · Provide analysis and insights on financial performance to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.

    · Monitor and manage the credit union’s liquidity, cash flow, and investment portfolio.

    · Monitor financial performance metrics and recommend adjustments to achieve financial targets.

    Regulatory Compliance:

    · Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including NCUA and other applicable guidelines.

    · Coordinate audits and examinations with internal and external auditors.

    · Maintain accurate records for all financial activities and filings.

    Asset Liability Management (ALM):

    · Contributes to the development of ALM strategies to manage interest rate risk, liquidity, and balance sheet structure, including stress testing to forecast financial performance under varying economic conditions.

    · Collaborate with executive leadership to align ALM strategies with the credit union’s overall goals and objectives.

    Strategic Planning:

    · Serve as a key advisor to the CFO and executive leadership team on accounting and ALM matters that support the credit union’s growth and member satisfaction.

    · Analyze financial trends and provide recommendations to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.

    · Foster relationships with external partners, such as financial institutions, vendors, and regulators.

    · Support strategic initiatives such as mergers, acquisitions, and new product offerings.

    Team Leadership:

    · Supervise and mentor the accounting and finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.

    · Establish policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard the credit union’s financial assets.

    · Manage vendor relationships related to accounting and financial services.

    Miscellaneous:

    · Serve as a member of the Tactical Team, collaborating with other leaders on both department specific and organizational projects.

    · Advocate and demonstrate company brand.

    · Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    · Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.

    · Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a credit union, banking, or financial services environment.

    · Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.

    Skills and Abilities:

    · Exceptional leadership and team management skills.

    · Analytical and strategic thinking with attention to detail.

    · Advanced proficiency in financial software and tools; experience with credit union core systems preferred.

    · Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial data to various audiences.

    Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements:

    This position requires the employee to work indoors in a typical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations, and the ability to stand, walk stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 1-25 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with arms, talk, and hear.

    Location: 4605 Commerce Road, Richmond, VA 23234.

    Hours

    40 hour workweek between the hours of 8:00am and 5:30pm, Monday - Friday.
