Position Overview
The Director of Catering at Delta Chesapeake is responsible for leading the catering sales efforts, developing and executing strategic plans, and ensuring the successful planning and execution of all banquet functions. This position plays a critical role in driving revenue growth, enhancing guest experiences, and fostering strong relationships with clients and vendors. The Director of Catering will work closely with the culinary, banquet, sales, and operations teams to ensure seamless event execution and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Revenue Growth
Develop and execute a catering sales strategy to increase revenue and maximize profitability.
Proactively solicit new business and maintain relationships with existing clients to secure repeat business.
Conduct market research and competitive analysis to position Delta Chesapeake’s catering service effectively.
Utilize a proactive sales approach to penetrate key market segments, including corporate, social, and wedding events.
Implement creative sales strategies to attract new business and expand market share.
Work with the sales and marketing teams to develop promotional materials, pricing strategies, and sales campaigns.
Event Planning & Execution
Collaborate with clients to understand their vision, needs, and budget to create customized event proposals.
Oversee all logistical aspects of catering events, including menu selection, room setup, staffing, and service execution.
Partner with the Executive Chef and Food & Beverage team to develop innovative and high-quality menu offerings.
Ensure all catering events are executed flawlessly and exceed guest expectations.
Work closely with hotel departments, including housekeeping, AV, and front desk, to ensure a seamless event experience.
Operational Excellence
Manage the daily operations of the catering department, ensuring efficiency and adherence to hotel standards.
Supervise and mentor catering sales managers, banquet captains, and event staff.
Conduct regular training and development sessions to enhance team performance.
Maintain accurate forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting for catering operations.
Monitor and control costs while ensuring high-quality service and guest satisfaction.
Client & Vendor Relations
Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate clients, event planners, wedding coordinators, and vendors.
Ensure clear and effective communication with clients before, during, and after events.
Handle client feedback and concerns promptly, ensuring positive resolutions.
Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with vendors to optimize cost savings and service quality.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure all catering operations comply with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
Maintain knowledge of industry trends and best practices to keep catering services competitive.
Uphold Delta Chesapeake’s brand standards in all catering and event functions.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred) or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in catering sales and event management, preferably in a hotel or luxury resort setting.
Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and develop staff.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, and revenue management.
High-level proficiency in CI/TY, Microsoft Office, and Marriott systems.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to oversee events.
Creative problem-solving skills with a strong customer service mindset.
Knowledge of food and beverage operations, including menu planning and cost control.
