JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Nursing, the Director of ER will be responsible for creating an environment of patient-focused care, defining standards for quality patient care, managing, and developing work-based teams for assigned shifts, training new staff, and providing leadership to the ER Clinical Team. The incumbent will ensure service, growth, development, personnel management, resource allocation, and management controls to provide consistent, high-quality patient care in the Emergency Department. Duties include establishing meetings and continuously monitoring the goals and objectives while aligning them with the organization's strategic goals and objectives per Joint Commission, federal, state, and local guidelines, and standard policy and procedure.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
1\. Supervises and coordinates clinical and administrative operations; oversees development and implementation of plans, operations, and programs within assigned or across Clinical Service Units.
2\. Provides leadership and direction in establishing and maintaining a system for developing, reviewing, approving, disseminating, and assuring the quality of clinical practice standards.
3\. Assists the Executive Director of Nursing in ensuring effective communication and coordination of initiatives among various councils and committees with EHS, the nursing infrastructure, and other hospital medical staff committee councils and work groups.
4\. Provides oversight and direction to the clinical service units in establishing departmental direction consistent with hospital and health system strategic plans and objectives.
5\. Prepares clinical reports, plans for and ensures competent care for patients and families, and develops/monitors programs to facilitate the meeting of department, hospital, and health system goals.
6\. Provides administrative direction to staff within areas of responsibility, including supporting plan development, priority-setting, decision-making, and professional development.
7\. Coordinates the resource needs for areas of responsibility, including reviewing and approving budgetary recommendations and preparing variance analyses of budgeted revenues and expenses for areas of responsibility.
8\. Leads change regarding quality of care and operational enhancements, including implementation and communication plans related thereto.
9\. Directs with management staff needed resources and work required to conform to hospital policies and procedures.
10\. Directs activities with managers and administrators in other departments as needed to ensure high-quality, efficient clinical services.
11\. Directs personnel functions related to areas of responsibility including, but not limited to hiring and performance management.
12\. Serves as a role model, mentor, and resource for professional colleagues. Participates in leadership activities such as committees, professional organizations, publishing, teaching, and research.
13\. Remains current with local trends and changes in nursing professional/practice in health environment. Ensure that department/staff meet TJC, GA Board of Nursing, and other regulatory/licensure requirements.
14\. Assists in leading system-wide strategic planning process and business development in collaboration with the senior leadership team. Directs and assists in market share and volume reporting process. Participates in effectively utilizing balanced scorecards to connect department-level activity to the system's strategic plan.
15\. Assumes responsibility for effectively managing the Business Planning and Service line development process. Evaluate daily activities and make operational changes as necessary to improve service line performance levels and support execution.
16\. Directs the deployment of resources to effectively manage strategic relationships with key physicians. Activity includes collaborating with the Physicians' Relations Liaison and staff to develop operational plans to support physician engagement strategies. Engagement strategies will target regional and referring physicians and key medical staff members.
17\. Fosters positive relationships with key members of the medical staff, regional hospitals, employed physicians, regional visiting specialists, and employees to solicit input and collaborate with them on strategy development and implementation of clinical programs, business and service line programs, procedures, and plans.
18\. Generates high-quality analysis and reports to support the system’s strategic analysis process, business development, and service line function. Ensures the timely availability of key market data.
19\. Collaborate with the Executive Team and leadership to develop opportunities for growth in the core business, regional markets, and referral markets.
20\. Conduct monthly rounding sessions for each employee to discuss problem-solving educational needs and address concerns.
