Position Overview
The Director of Environmental Services oversees the environmental division of the firm which consists of four separate departments. This role involves shaping and executing the division’s strategic vision, ensuring optimal resource utilization, and upholding high standards and procedures. Although the Director may occasionally take on departmental management tasks, their primary focus will be on leading the division at a strategic level, with Department Managers reporting directly to them.
- Develops and implements the division level strategic plan, long-term goals and business plan for the environmental division
- Develops and/or reviews and approves the annual capital and labor budgets and financial metrics for the environmental division.
- Develops and/or reviews and provides input on each of the Environmental Department budgets.
- Monitors and ensures environmental department performance targets are met.
- Develops and executes the annual department business development plan in collaboration with the business development department and the environmental department managers.
- Establishes and maintains strategic client relationships.
- Networks to improve the presence and reputation of the environmental services as well as the overall company.
- Fosters a positive and productive work environment within the division.
- Partners with HR to develop and implement effective recruiting strategies for the division.
- Creates and enforces division-specific policies, procedures, and safety plans.
- Coordinates division IT issues with the IT department for the needs of the environmental departments.
- Coordinates with HR and department managers to address employee relations issues and provide input on hires and personnel matters.
- Provides input on department hires and employee relations issues within the environmental departments.
- Collaborates with other Directors to ensure the integration of all discipline services.
- Ensures that all division staff understand the overall company objectives and ensures departmental and individual goals are met.
- Ensures the performance management process is followed and appropriate flow of corporate message to participants.
- Collaborates with other directors to develop corporate policy regarding plan production, design standards, QA/QC process and implementation, and deliverable output.
- Pursues strategic hires based on department goals.
- Contributes to merger and acquisition initiatives and directs activities related to expanding discipline services into new markets.
Role In Projects
Involvement in projects shall be at a client relationship level and not on a technical level, production level or daily management level. Billing shall be left primarily to the Project Manager staff. Percent of chargeable time shall be maintained at a level beneath 30% in order to satisfy the above noted responsibilities. It may be necessary to directly manage certain clients (strategic or key clients) or strategic projects, but project management role should be limited and delegated to others when possible.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred in a related field.
- Actively involved in Industry Associations
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant managerial experience at a similar firm.
- Proven business development and client relationship management skills with emphasis on Strategic Planning.
- Prior managerial experience supervising, coaching and developing staff.
- Knowledge of key financial concepts of A|E|C industry.
- In-depth knowledge of service offerings and A|E|C industry business practices.
