Director of Engineering
Anoka, MN | Direct-Hire | $130,000 – $160,000 Base Salary | 100% Onsite
Konik is partnering with a local manufacturing company that is looking to add a Director of Engineering to their team. The Engineering Director is responsible for spearheading all engineering functions within the organization. This executive role involves managing project execution, enhancing production processes, championing continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring adherence to quality, cost, and safety protocols. Collaboration across departments is key to optimizing design, development, and machine shop operations.
Director of Engineering Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Drive the engineering team’s success through mentorship, project oversight, and operational alignment.
- Formulate and execute engineering strategies in sync with the company's goals.
- Partner with corporate leadership to allocate resources based on evolving customer needs and market dynamics.
- Lead efforts in equipment selection, process transfer, and technological advancements.
- Establish accountability for project deliverables, including technical requirements, timelines, and budget compliance.
Project Management:
- Define project scopes, allocate resources, set budgets, and establish timelines.
- Oversee the design and implementation of new systems, tools, and equipment to enhance production capabilities.
- Ensure smooth transitions from product development to manufacturing through the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
- Conduct project reviews to manage risks and resolve issues proactively.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process enhancements to optimize efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and product quality.
- Champion Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives.
- Maintain comprehensive process documentation, including SOPs and change requests.
- Lead cost reduction and production upgrade projects.
Team Development:
- Recruit, train, and develop engineering talent, ensuring skills match business requirements.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous professional growth.
Budget & Resource Management:
- Administer departmental budgets, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
- Oversee capital expenditures linked to engineering projects.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and company policies.
- Promote a safe working environment through risk management initiatives.
Director of Engineering Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Mathematics (Master’s preferred).
- 8+ years of relevant engineering experience; 5+ years in leadership roles.
- Experience in regulated machining environments (ISO13485, AS9100, ITAR).
- Background in Aerospace or Medical Device manufacturing preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Deep knowledge of CNC machining, production techniques, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (Mastercam) and ERP/MRP systems.
- Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process optimization methodologies.
- Advanced project management and multitasking capabilities.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills:
- Proven track record of leading diverse engineering teams.
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage complex projects with tight deadlines in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Preferred Expertise:
- Familiarity with competitive pricing models and industry benchmarks.
- Experience with Agile/Lean methodologies (certifications are a plus).
- Competency in business intelligence tools such as PowerBI and JobBoss.
