    JOB SUMMARY

    Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer and direction of the Nursing Home Administrator, the Director of the Nursing Care Center will plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Care Center in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. The position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast pace and dynamic environment.

     

    STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

    1. Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Care Center's Nursing Services department and its programs and activities per current rules, regulations, and TJC guidelines that govern the hospital and Care Center.
    2. Develop, Maintain, Review, and Update written policies and procedures, nursing manuals, job descriptions, reference library, etc., for the Care Center.
    3. Recruit, interview, and select personnel; monitor staff to ensure that performance, behavior, dress, and safety performance is in accordance with acceptable nursing standards; monitor absenteeism and review grievances and complaints. Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly.
    4. Assist the Discharge Planning Coordinator with developing, implementing, and updating the procedures for the Discharge Planning Program and for each resident.
    5. Serve on, participate in, and assist with all committees you are appointed to, including Quality Assessment and Improvement, Pharmaceutical, Budget, Infection Control, and Policy Advisory, and support their function, assisting with reporting, developing, maintaining, implementing, developing policies, procedures, and manuals, within the guidelines of the facility and in compliance with TJC and other governing/inspection bodies.
    6. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
    7. Participate in surveys and inspections made by authorized government agencies and TJC.
    8. Make recommendations to the Chief Nursing Officer and the CEO regarding staffing, equipment, supply needs, and issues.
    9. Monitor and ensure that equipment and supply needs, medical supply needs, and stock of medications are on hand and needed to ensure sufficient quantities are on hand to meet the resident’s needs.
    10. Give oral and written reports and recommendations to the Chief Nursing Officer and the CEO as requested, needed, and assigned.
    11. Actively participate in the Care Plan Committee and Discharge Planning.
    12. Determine budgetary and staffing needs, report to the CNO and CEO as necessary, and work with the Human Resources department to recruit qualified staff.
    13. Perform daily rounds of the care center to ensure acceptable standards of staffing and performance and resident care. Report changes in the resident's condition to physician/family as needed. Use good nursing judgment in acute situations.
    14. Monitor residents and employees at mealtimes, assisting as necessary.
    15. Direct the STAR program in the Care Center, identifying at-risk residents and monitoring STAR activities.
    16. Ensure that team member disciplinary action is taken when necessary and is fairly applied.
    17. Periodically review nurses’ notes to ensure completeness, monitor medication passes and treatment schedules, authorize resident restraints when necessary, and provide direct nursing care as necessary.
    18. Ensure that adequate stocks of supplies and pharmaceuticals are maintained to provide for the continued care of all residents.
    19. Ensure that the quarterly QA/Performance Improvement measures are reported in a timely manner.
    20. Ensure that the Care Center and all Resident rooms are maintained clean, sanitary, organized, safe, and secure.
    21. Monitor staff education and provide support and direction to the education coordinator as needed.
    22. Perform other duties as assigned, required, needed, or necessary.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of high school and completion of Registered Nurse Training. BSN is highly preferred.

    Formal Training: Management skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, and verbal and written communications.

    Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have a current unencumbered Georgia Registered Nurse license and Basic Life Support CPR certification.

    Work Experience: Must have 5 to 7 years of leadership experience and/or training in Long-Term Care.
