    Job Summary: The Director of Nursing will work as an integral and visible part of the HRC interdisciplinary team. This position requires an extensive knowledge of mental health nursing and a passion for working with adults and children with a mental health diagnosis. This position includes staff hiring and management of work performance, development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures, staff training/education, infection control, the procurement and management of supplies and equipment for nursing, establishment and promotion of quality improvement standards, direct communication and consultation with HRC staff and clients, and oversight of medication related management.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: • The Director of Nursing will provide leadership and supervision of all nursing services at South Central Human Relations Center with direct supervision over the Community Programs Nurse, SCHA RN Care Coordinator, and Tri County nursing staff that supports Psychiatry, with oversight of ACT nursing staff and nursing services.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Implements and maintains a high standard of nursing leadership, overseeing agency nursing care.

    Responsible for creating, communicating, monitoring and interpreting agency compliance in local, state, federal, and program regulations for medication management and nursing/CMA in their roles/skills and licensure.

    Maintain and/or oversee the maintenance and storage of medications at each site.

    Identifies existing or potential problems.

    Respond to complaints or grievances by clients, delegate staff to address client concerns/needs. Develop recommendations for quality improvement.

    Collaborates with leadership to develop, implement and monitor Infection Control prevention policies and protocols.

    Conducts regular nursing staff meetings.

    Promotes teamwork, mutual respect and effective communication leading by example through compassionate leadership.

    Direct Care Nursing as needed by assuming other nursing roles such as medication management and clinical assessment to ensure adequate staffing and coverage is met with familiarity and skills in all roles.

    Working directly with the internal and external multidisciplinary team and clients/families to assist with client related concerns, crisis, and emergencies.

    Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all SCHRC staff to provide an interdisciplinary plan of care for all clients served.

    Administrative

    Participates in internal and external job-related committees, meetings, and in-services.

    Manages finances, budget, and transactions for nursing.

    Ordering and Maintenance of equipment and supplies.

    Responsible for managing work performance, which includes performance evaluations, recognition for achievement/performance, discipline, dismissal, performance improvement plans, approve timecards, PTO requests, mileage reimbursement review.

    Establish and maintain a work schedule based on the needs of clients, prescribers, and community programs.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Good time management and organizational skills with ability to work as a team and independently.

    Active listening skills, negotiation, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills to communicate effectively and with empathy.

    Health insurance/billing experience a plus

    Adheres to professional standards, Federal, State, and local requirements, CCBHC and Universal Services Standards, SCHRC policies as well as understanding and compliance with infection control safety, and OSHA procedures and regulations and CDC guidelines.

    Critical thinking skills to identify, analyze, and implement evidence-based best practice interventions.

    Complies with Safety and Infection Control policies to ensure a safe work environment within OSHA standards and best practices.

    Maintain client confidentiality following Federal HIPPA and State standards.

    Computer skills: Electronic health record and basic Microsoft experience

    Education and Experience:

    Current/unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota.

    BSN or MSN preferred from an accredited college or university (or an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited college of nursing with extensive experience in leadership/management and/or mental health nursing).

    CPR/First Aid/BLS certification

    Physical Requirements:

    Have the ability to move quickly to respond to crisis situations.

    Have the ability to communicate well with peers, staff, residents, family members, and providers.

    Visual ability to review detailed reports and ability to write clearly and succinctly.

    Have the ability and training to use clinical medical equipment and medication administration equipment such as needles and syringes.

    Have the ability to work in an environment which requires the use of a computer, telephone, copier, fax, etc.

    Work Environment: The employee must be able to tolerate and adapt to a daily schedule that is subject to change due to emergent and urgent staff and client needs as well as rescheduling, canceling, and clients that do not show for appointments. Duties are performed in an office setting, meeting face to face or via video with clients, staff, and community members. Occasionally there will be meetings held off-site in the community.
