    Specific Job Title: Director of the Ozanam Scholars’ Program

    Job Summary:

    The Director of the Ozanam Scholars Program will provide the leadership and management of the four-year student leadership research program of the Institute. This includes the design, implementation and maintenance of events and programs of the Ozanam Scholars that promote Academic Scholarship, Vincentian Service, and Global Citizenship. The Director will also collaborate with faculty and academic colleges that support the opportunity to enrich scholarship, promote research, and ground creative activity embedded in interdisciplinary curricula, teaching, and learning, while helping our Scholars to become engaged, responsible citizens within and among their local and global communities. This position is responsible for two full-time administrators (Associate and Assistant Director of the Ozanam Scholars), one part-time faculty member (Ozanam Scholars Faculty Advisor), and three (3) graduate assistants.

    Essential Functions:

    Under the guidance of the Executive Director of the Institute for Vincentian Impact, the Director of the Ozanam Scholars Program will provide vision and leadership of the program in line with the University’s strategic plans, including the following functions:

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Ozanam Scholars Program, including the supervision of one full-time administrator (Associate Director of the Ozanam Scholars Program), one part-time faculty member (Ozanam Scholars Faculty Advisor), and three (3) graduate assistants, as well as support of the Assistant Director to the Ozanam Scholar’s program, who is supervised by the Associate Director.
    • Manage the Ozanam Scholars’ operating budget to support the program;
    • Responsible for coordination and implementation of senior and junior cohorts, including but not limited to junior and senior travel, junior and senior Tuesday conferences, and research projects, as well as the creation and implementation of various workshops and activities consistent with the themes of global citizenship, Vincentian service, and scholarly research
    • In collaboration with the Ozanam Scholars Faculty Advisor, assess and develop research opportunities for junior and senior scholars, and other workshops to enhance student research and leadership skills;
    • Oversee the development and implementation of research activities across all cohorts to ensure student research aligns with IVI community engaged partners, social justice, and Vincentian values;
    • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Assessment and Community Partnerships in Mission, and the Office of Institutional Research, supervising the implementation of assessment measures and evaluations for students, community partners and faculty mentors;
    • Monitor the development of all academic requirements (social justice minor, research workshops and program specific courses), meeting with the college deans and department chairs as needed;
    • Support the recruitment, interview, and selection process of the first-year cohort for the Ozanam Scholars.
    • Provide support to the Executive Director for the Institute for Vincentian Impact (IVI) regarding special projects and presentation opportunities at national conferences to promote program research, and other duties as assigned.
    • Provide require reports, as directed by the Executive Director for the Institute for Vincentian Impact (IVI) in support of requests from the AVP for Mission and Ministry, the Board of Trustees, etc.;
    • Serve as I.V.I. representation on special committees, as deemed necessary by the Executive Director for the Institute for Vincentian Impact (IVI)

    Competencies

    • Firm understanding of and commitment to the Catholic and Vincentian components of the University’s Mission; strong interest in poverty alleviation, social justice, and community service in a post-secondary environment preferred;
    • Service-learning and/or community engaged research experience; Global service-learning experience
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Strong presentation skills with the ability to effectively deliver workshops, informational presentations to university groups and constituencies as requested and or needed
    • Ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed
    • Must be flexible to work weekend and evening hours as needed
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint; knowledge of Banner and Canvas is a plus
    • Strong organizational, analytical, supervisory and interpersonal skills
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • This position requires access to a University vehicle, with a preference for satisfactory results of a DMV check for driving record and a valid driver’s license

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position manages one full-time administrator, one part-time faculty member, and approximately three part-time graduate-level employees in the Institute for Vincentian Impact (IVI) as well as support of the Assistant Director to the Ozanam Scholar’s program. This position in the IVI department is responsible for the hiring, onboarding, and performance management of these employees within the department.

    This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.


    Physical Demands

    The physical demands described represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs. The employee must be able to travel locally, nationally and internationally using various forms of transportation, including airlines, trains, charter buses and University vans. Specific verbal abilities required by the employee include the ability to speak to large and small groups of students and faculty members, often presenting both in person and virtually.

    Environmental Conditions

    Due to the nature of the Vincentian service travel requirements for the Ozanam Scholars Program, the position requires the ability to travel locally, nationally and globally to underserved and under-resourced locations with small and large groups of Ozanam Scholars.


    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. However, in collaboration with the Executive Director for the Institute for Vincentian Impact (IVI), these hours can be adjusted as this position often requires evening and weekend hours.


    Travel

    Travel is an integral part of this position, including the supervision of local, national and international Vincentian service trips and occasional research conference.

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Master’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, business or an appropriate social discipline;
    • Minimum five years’ experience in higher education or community agencies;
    • 2 years of fiscal management experience
    • 3-5 years of supervisory experience
    • Management of programs, projects and efforts related, but not limited to, student development leadership, higher education, research, and community partnerships.

    Preferred Education and Experience:

    • Master’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, business or an appropriate social discipline;
    • 8 years’ of experience in higher education or community agencies;
    • 3-5 years of fiscal management experience
    • 5-7 years of supervisory experience
    • Management of programs, projects and efforts related, but not limited to, student development leadership, higher education, research and community partnerships.
