Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) – Home Health (California) Job Description
Position Overview:
The Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) for a Home Health Agency in California is responsible for overseeing clinical operations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and maintaining high standards of patient care. This leadership role involves managing nursing staff, coordinating patient services, and ensuring adherence to agency policies and Medicare/Medicaid guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and direct all clinical aspects of patient care services.
Ensure high-quality care delivery and compliance with patient care standards.
Supervise patient care planning, assessment, and implementation.
Participate in case conferences and review patient care plans for effectiveness.
Serve as a resource for clinical staff, providing guidance on patient care issues.
Ensure compliance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and The Joint Commission (if applicable).
Stay updated with Title 22, Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoPs), and other relevant state and federal regulations.
Oversee agency accreditation processes and audits.
Develop and implement policies to maintain high standards of care.
Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate nursing and clinical staff.
Ensure proper staffing levels to meet patient care needs.
Provide ongoing education, training, and professional development opportunities for clinical staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective actions as needed.
Collaborate with the Administrator/Executive Director on agency goals and strategic planning.
Maintain accurate patient records and oversee documentation compliance.
Coordinate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure operational efficiency.
Assist in budgeting and financial planning related to patient care services.
Monitor utilization of services to ensure cost-effective care delivery.
Work with billing and compliance teams to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in California.
Experience: Minimum two years of home health experience and at least one year of supervisory or management experience in a healthcare setting.
Licenses & Certifications:
Active California RN license
CPR certification
Additional certifications (e.g., OASIS, COS-C) preferred
Knowledge:
Familiarity with Home Health regulations (Title 22, Medicare CoPs, CHAP, The Joint Commission).
Strong understanding of OASIS documentation, ICD-10 coding, and PPS billing.
Familiarity with Survey from Joint Commission, Private Insurance Partners, etc.
Skills:
Leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems (e.g., Homecare Homebase, Kinnser).
Work Environment & Schedule
Full-time salaried position (Monday–Friday and after hours)
Office-based role with potential field visits to patient homes and training of staff in field.
Must be able to travel locally as needed.
