The PositionStart Date: May/June (Summer) Length of Assignment: 9 months, 40/hrs per week. Given the current uncertainty of the global pandemic and work from home situation for 2022, this internship is currently planned to be virtual with the option for interns to work remotely from within the U.S. borders. Preferred Majors/Disciplines: Biological or biomedical sciences, data science Education level: Graduate or Professional Student (pursuing MS, PharmD, PhD, or other advanced degrees; not completed) Genentech's Research and Early Development (gRED) Early Clinical Development (ECD) organization is responsible for developing and executing early development clinical strategies to provide proof-of-concept for the safety and efficacy of gRED new molecular entities. There are two programs that the intern will support, working with the Clinical Science Team Lead (CSTL) and cross functional teammates as well as external partners. (1) In the setting of a GVHD team, The ECD Intern will build a comprehensive database of adverse events occurring in bone marrow transplant patients who develop acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD). The database will serve as a comparator for an ongoing Phase II clinical trial and will help de-risk and contextualize any potential safety findings in that study. The database will also provide a much-needed resource to support future open-label clinical trials in these patients. (2) Working with a team studying a novel small molecule, the Intern will assess the potential biologic rationale, clinical development plans, and existing treatment landscape for a new indication (eg, heart failure).The day-to-day activities for the first project will include:Literature review of adverse events in bone marrow transplantation and in patients who develop acute graft-versus-host disease in particularAnalysis of related real-world data setsCollaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Clinical Safety, Data Management) and external partners to build a safety databaseTranslation of insights gained from literature review and data analysis into practical recommendations for and interpretation of ongoing Phase II clinical trialThe day-to-day activities for the second project will include:Literature review of the biology, clinical development path, therapeutic landscape, and physiology of heart failureTranslation of insights gained into recommendations for potential further studies that would help to elucidate the role of the novel signalling pathway in heart failureBoth projects will include the following:Present results at team meetings and at departmental meetings, as well as an opportunity to present to external audiences (conferences, publications)QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in the life sciences with plans for graduate education in biological or biomedical sciences (ongoing MS, PharmD, PhD preferred but not required)Experience working with the principles and techniques of data analysis and visualization, interpretation, and assessment of clinical relevance Strong computer skills ABILITIES:Outstanding attention to detail Excellent project management skills: can prioritize multiple tasks and goals and deliver them in a timely, on-target and high-quality mannerStrong interpersonal, verbal communication skills Outstanding written communication skills Strong presentation skills: effective at summarizing and presenting the key considerations and decision-points Excellent teamwork: knows how to complete deliverables by working effectively with colleagues; can effectively drive discussions and decisions toward desired end results For Colorado-based applicants, the expected salary range for this position is [21/hr - 50/hr].
