    Job Description

    This position is contingent on contract award.

    This is an on-call casual position responsible for responding to disasters in support of state and federal government efforts. The Emergency Medical Technician may be deployed for periods ranging from 14 to 120 days to areas impacted by significant disasters across the United States and its territories. Compensation rates will vary depending on the specific disaster and location.

    The Firefighter Driver Engineer EMT performs a comprehensive array of firefighting and emergency medical services (EMS) duties, including the suppression of various fire types, provision of emergency medical care, and participation in fire training and prevention initiatives. This role involves responding to fire, rescue, and emergency medical calls according to established protocols, executing emergency medical procedures for the care of the sick and injured, and safely operating fire apparatus during emergency responses. Additionally, the Firefighter EMT is responsible for maintaining fire and EMS equipment, ensuring it is returned to an operational state after each incident.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Responding to fire, rescue, and emergency medical calls according to established protocols.
    • Operated water pump apparatus during fire suppression activities.
    • Performs routine maintenance on fire/ambulance apparatus, including minor mechanical and cleaning work and keeping written maintenance log current.
    • Execute emergency medical procedures for the care of the sick and injured.
    • Safely operate fire apparatus during emergency responses.
    • Maintaining fire and EMS equipment, ensuring it is returned to an operational state after each incident.
    • Assist medical providers in performing procedures and delivering treatments within the scope of licensure.
    • Proactively administer basic medical care, including visual acuity assessments, basic wound care, bandage changes, and medication administration within the defined scope of practice.
    • Assess, document, and monitor patients’ vital signs, chief complaints, medical histories, and prescribed medications.
    • Establish and document observable interventions in accordance with protocols.
    • Communicate any changes in patients’ conditions to the medical provider promptly.
    • Support patients with basic care needs and activities of daily living as necessary.
    • Provide patient education and support to promote informed health decisions.
    • Maintain supply inventory by monitoring stock levels and anticipating supply needs.
    • Restock clinical and provider areas upon receipt of supplies.
    • Participate in cross-training initiatives to work effectively in clinics, emergency rooms, and inpatient units.
    • Engage in on-call rotation as required.

    Required Skills and Knowledge

    • Ability to operate and maintain fire suppression pumps and apparatus.
    • Ability to assess and treat adult patients in pre-hospital setting and successfully perform Basic Life Support interventions in accordance with protocols.
    • Ability to administer medication in adult patients in accordance with protocols within scope of practice.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proficient IT skills including use of electronic medical records systems.

    Essential Capabilities

    • Ability to function with accuracy and efficiency in high pressure or emergent situations.
    • Respond calmly in emergency situations.
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
    • Must be able to manage and provide concise directions to supporting staff.
    • Ability to quickly adapt to changing work conditions and responsibilities.

    Required Work Experience

    • Minimum of 1 year of Fire Fighting and EMS experience in a busy 911 system.
    • Minimum of 1 year as a Certified Pump Operator within a busy Fire Service.
    • Experience in a remote setting is preferred.
    • Prior rural and brush fire experience preferred.

    Qualifications

    • An approved state or national accredited (IFSAC or ProBoard) Firefighter I & II certification that conforms to NFPA 1001 (2008 or 2013 Standards) is required.
    • Must hold a current unrestricted Florida license as a EMT or AEMT.
    • Current NREMT Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is preferred.
    • Must poses a current Florida State Driver License.
    • Must hold an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) certification.
    • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
    • Certified in S-130/S-190/L-180: Basic Wildland Firefighter is preferred.

    Travel/ Rotation Requirements

    • Some travel within the State of Florida may be required.

    Physical Demands:

    • Work is normally performed in Austere conditions.
    • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment, and outdoors with exposure to environmental heat, humidity, sunshine, rain, and wind.
    • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
    • May require bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to safely negotiate flights of stairs.
    • Ability to Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

    Other Special Qualifications:

    • US Citizen.
    • Current State License; National Registry Emergency Technician certification.
    • Live near a major airport
    • Be able to respond to site within 72 hours
    • Clear a Child Neglect and Abuse Check and other background requirements.

    Additional Information

    Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
