Patty Baker Humane Society Naples is looking for a dedicated Dog Care Supervisor to lead a team in providing exceptional care for puppies and adult dogs at our Main Shelter. As the Dog Care Supervisor, you’ll be the key to ensuring that our canine residents receive the highest standards of care, enrichment, and training during their stay at the shelter. You will work closely with the Animal Care team, as well as the Veterinary and Behavior departments, to create a safe and enriching environment for all our dogs.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate and coordinate with other departments, including Veterinary and Behavior, to ensure that the shelter provides the highest standard of care to dogs and puppies
Train and supervise animal care personnel and volunteers on proper techniques and procedures related to the handling, husbandry, enrichment, and care of dogs and puppies
Supervise individual members of the Animal Care Team, including directing work, providing feedback and correction, time card management, and assisting with performance reviews
Participate in daily husbandry, care, and enrichment
Monitor the health, weight, condition, and behavior of dogs and puppies, communicating health concerns to the Shelter Intake Clinic
Working with the Shelter Manager, Veterinary, and Behavior teams, as needed review and update SOPs related to all aspects of handling, husbandry, care, and enrichment of dogs and puppies
Work closely with the Shelter Manager, Satellite Shelter Manager, Behavior Manager, Veterinary Team, and other Animal Care Supervisors to facilitate the transfer of medically- and behaviorally-ready dogs to the adoption floor
Working in conjunction with the Behavior team, conduct and supervise the training and socialization of puppies and adult dogs, including dog-to-dog introductions and play groups
Provide counseling, education, and behavioral support for adopters and fosters of shelter dogs before and after adoption, or before and during fostering
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Familiarity with ShelterLuv or similar software is a plus, along with basic computer and mathematical skills.
Fluency in English required; Spanish is a bonus!
Extensive knowledge of canine health, behavior, socialization, and husbandry/care/enrichment best practices
Coaching, training, and supervisory skills
Patience and tact with sensitive and passionate personnel involved in the care of shelter animals
Computer skills, including data entry and Microsoft Office
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times
Physical Requirements
The ability to see at approximately 20/20 vision with or without assistive devices
The ability to hear or read lips with or without assistive devices
The ability to use arms, hands, and fingers, including fine motor movements
The ability to independently lift up to 40 lbs
Personnel in this position can expect to engage in moderate physical labor, including but not limited to bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, and lifting, as well as standing for long periods of time.
