GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, provide support to various Dole Fresh Vegetables Fresh Pack business units to ensure the accounting records properly reflect the operation by recording monthly journal entry, preparing balance sheet reconciliations and analysis.
Required Skills
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION
- Perform journal entries supported by reasonable, accurate, and complete documentation that can be used and followed by other accounting /finance groups with little or no knowledge on the subject.
- Perform balance sheet accounting reconciliation including Inventory.
- Maintain an up-to-date detailed accounting manual and procedures.
- Review vegetable units and complete adjustment journals as necessary.
- Prepare month and quarter end variance analysis.
- Assist corporate staff with requests as needed.
- Assist auditors with information as needed.
- Assist Accounting Manager with other duties as needed.
- Consistently review accounting procedures and suggest ideas to improve and automate processes.
- Work effectively and efficiently in cross-functional departments including Grower Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Finance, Operations, Logistics, Shipping, Receiving and Accounts Receivable.
- Liaison with other departments in accounting/grower payable-related questions.
Required Experience
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS)
- 2-3 years cost accounting/financial analysis experience required.
- Prefer experience in agricultural accounting
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, procedures and application.
- Must have the ability to make decisions, appear for work on time, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism.
- Strong attention to detail and a desire to assume new responsibilities.
- Organization, attention to detail and the ability to analyze data.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS / INFLUENCE
- Interaction takes place with all areas of the company, from subordinates to Senior Staff and Operational Directors and Vice Presidents. The Accounting Manager may also work with the Inventory and Transportation Managers, Accounts Payable.
- External interactions take place with insurance providers, auditors, both private and public, growers, customers, and others.
INTERNAL & EXTERNAL RELATIONS
- Primary relationships are with peer group, corporate accounting, grower settlement department, product management and the sales group.If the staff accountant is involved in grower accounting, external communications with the growers and their field representatives may also be required.
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
- B.A. in Accounting or Finance.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) up to 15 lbs.

WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, rotating shifts as needed.
