    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY
    Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the Driver/Distribution Center Team Member provides operational and administrative support in the safe distribution of food to those facing hunger in San Diego. This includes driving to make deliveries, receiving and order pulling duties, as well as assisting the Distribution Center Managers as needed. These tasks are to be completed following all personal safety and food safety regulations.

    • Load trucks.
    • Make deliveries based on assigned route.
    • Make pick-ups assigned.
    • Unload and clean truck.
    • Clean projects based on the Areas of Responsibility.
    • Pull daily orders based on pick lists and stage completed orders in lanes based on order specific instructions and outgoing truck schedule.
    • Unload trucks using a forklift while utilizing strict adherence to receiving SOPs.
    • Complete receiving process and paperwork to ensure food safety of product and accurate calculations of quantity received.
    • Calculate required pounds of product using order specific information and a calculator.
    • Provide operational support to volunteer staff by stocking volunteer area with product using an electric pallet jack or forklift.
    • Perform daily inspection of equipment based on check sheet.
    • Maintain accurate and complete recordkeeping (i.e., temperature logs, donation receipts, maintenance logs, etc.), according to FSD requirements.
    • Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
    • Pack bags of produce to prepare for distribution based on daily need and SOP’s.
    • Ensure first-class customer service with community partners, member agencies and volunteers.
    • Communicates with the Distribution Center Managers and other staff regarding inventory.
    • variances or breaches of internal controls and procedures.
    • Assist the Distribution Center Managers in determining and coordinating the monthly and weekly cycle count processes, record keeping, data collection, and information management for all receiving and distribution of food and non-food items.
    • Coordinate with the food sourcing, volunteer, and programs teams to ensure efficient and effective movement of product.
    • Perform general cleaning tasks assigned by cleaning schedules and SOPs.
    • Help establish a continuously food safe Distribution Center by ensuring that all processes are maintained based on cleaning standards.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.

    INTERACTION
    The position will interact closely with all Distribution Center staff and provide information to donors, potential donors, individuals in need, volunteers, agency representatives, FSD staff and others from the community.

    EDUCATION/ YEARS EXPERIENCE

    Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the preferred education/experience would qualify for consideration of this position.

    Minimum:

    • Experience working in a warehouse environment.
    • One-year commercial truck driving experience

    Preferred:

    • High School diploma or GED.
    • Prefer 2 years of experience working in a warehouse environment including shipping/receiving, material handling, multi-tasking, and the preparation and maintenance of reports and records.
    • Food handler’s safety certificate. (Will provide training)
    • Success using inventory system software and hardware.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • General nonprofit organizational practices, food storage processes, record keeping and filing systems, basic mathematical functions.

    • Operate an electric pallet jack safely.

    • Operate a forklift safely.

    • Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

    • Perform tasks in Microsoft Office and Smartsheet at an intermediate level

    • Communicate orally and by writing in English.

    • Organize work for others.

    • Learn new technology.

    • Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines without close supervision.

    • Show integrity to complete tasks according to standard operating procedures with little supervision.

    • Work with others who are from diverse backgrounds and have differing opinions.

    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, volunteers, partners, and clients.

    • Sense and abate safety hazards.

    Tools and Equipment Used

    Electric pallet jack, forklift, manual pallet jack, dolly, computer, copier, printer, Handheld scanner.

    LICENSES/ CERTIFICATIONS

    • Must have reliable transportation.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain electric pallet jack and forklift certifications (training will be provided).
    • Class A or B license with a clean driving record.

    **PHYSICAL, MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS **

    The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

    • Perform work in a warehouse, which may occasionally create an exposure to dust and pollen.
    • Perform work in a cooler and freezer.
    • Sit and/or stand for extended periods, walk, bend at the waist and knees, kneel and use hands, arms and legs for dexterity.
    • Regularly lifts, carry, and balances objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Pulls and pushes such objects as file drawers and supplies.
    • The noise level in the work environment varies and can be considered moderate.

    PAY & HOURS

    $28 to $30 per hour

    FSD Distribution Center, Tues-Sat, Hours flexible
