We are currently partnered with a growing and established company in the manufacturing space seeking an EHS Specialist. The EHS Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating all environmental, health, and safety activities to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment for all employees. This role involves designing and implementing safety processes tailored to our business needs and leading initiatives that foster a strong safety culture.
*This is a direct hire and onsite position in Huntington Beach, CA.
Core Duties:
Develop and implement safety protocols that address the specific needs of both the company and its workforce.
Oversee the delivery and implementation of safety programs and training sessions.
Create and manage company-specific training content on the Learning Management System (LMS).
Draft and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, procedures, and work instructions.
Perform safety inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards and compliance issues.
Lead investigations into incidents and accidents using root-cause analysis methodologies.
Handle workers' compensation and vehicle liability claims.
Provide coaching and guidance to supervisors and leads on various safety, compliance, and training matters.
Assist in incorporating safety and compliance functions into existing software systems.
Prepare reports and presentations to inform senior leadership on safety concerns and developments.
Lead the enforcement of health and safety standards, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations with minimal oversight.
Mentor and support the site Safety Committee, including documenting meeting minutes and maintaining records.
Support environmental program management, including handling hazardous materials/waste, wastewater permits, and stormwater compliance.
Collaborate with HR and Operations teams to ensure that New Hire Safety Orientation and other safety training comply with all regulatory requirements.
Compile and present monthly EH&S Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reports that summarize critical data and activities.
Coordinate and conduct internal audits and inspections of safety programs within required timelines.
Stay informed on EPA, OSHA, Cal OSHA, and local health and safety regulations.
Maintain active certifications in First Aid/CPR, OSHA 30, and Forklift operation.
What we’re looking for:
At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a safety-focused role within a manufacturing or similar environment.
Relevant experience must include ensuring compliance with OSHA/Cal OSHA regulations, managing hazardous waste, conducting root-cause analysis for incident investigations, performing job hazard analysis, and overseeing workers’ compensation.
Possession of an OSHA or Certified Safety Professional certification is required.
Fluency in both English and Spanish.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Capability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Proficiency in standard computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
