    Job Description

    Position Overview:

    The SPED & ELL Coordinator is a critical school-based role responsible for overseeing and enhancing the delivery of Special Education and English Language Learner services. This position ensures that all designated students receive effective, equitable, and compliant support to achieve their academic and character development goals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Program Leadership and Strategy

    • Oversee the implementation and management of SPED and ELL programs at the school level, ensuring alignment with regional policies and state regulations.
    • Lead and support the integration of inclusive and effective teaching practices across general and special education settings.

    Team Development

    • Manage and support a team of special education teachers and paraprofessionals, fostering professional growth and effective instructional strategies.
    • Conduct regular professional development sessions tailored to the needs of SPED and ELL educators.

    Compliance and Documentation

    • Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant state, federal, and organizational guidelines related to Special Education and ELL.
    • Maintain meticulous records for each student, including IEPs, 504 Plans, and language proficiency assessments, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.

    Family and Community Engagement

    • Serve as a primary liaison between the school and families of students receiving special services, facilitating effective communication and collaborative relationships.
    • Organize and host regular meetings with parents and guardians to discuss student progress, program updates, and collaboratively plan for individual student needs.
    • Work closely with community organizations and resources to enhance support services for students.

    Assessment and Reporting

    • Oversee and manage the evaluation processes for SPED and ELL students, ensuring timely and accurate assessments.
    • Analyze student performance data to guide instructional practices and interventions.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Special Education, TESOL, or a related field preferred.
    • Valid teaching certification in Special Education; additional certification in TESOL/ELL is a plus.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a special education and/or ELL setting, with at least 2 years in a leadership or coordination role.
    • Proven experience working with diverse student populations in an urban educational setting.

    • Deep knowledge of special education and ELL instructional strategies and legal requirements.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop educators.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in Spanish being highly advantageous.
    • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement strategic interventions based on findings.

    Additional Information

    Work Environment

    • Reports to work Monday-Friday and some weekends.
    • A typical school or office environment with frequent interruptions.

    Travel Requirements:

    • Ability to travel to work location.
