    Job description

    Early Childhood Special Educator

    Job Summary:
    As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Early Childhood Special Educator provides developmental and educational support to infants and toddlers with developmental delays and their families.

    Supervision:

    • Reports to the Education Program Coordinator or designee.
    • May supervise student teachers, interns, and paraprofessionals.

    Work Environment:

    • Flexible schedule required.
    • Office based in Norfolk; work occurs in homes, daycare centers, preschools, and other community sites.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Sitting for extended periods, using a computer, and operating office equipment.
    • Frequent bending, floor sitting, and lifting up to 40 lbs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct developmental assessments and provide early intervention services in homes and community settings.
    • Develop and implement Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
    • Maintain detailed records and documentation per federal and state guidelines.
    • Coach parents in intervention strategies and child development.
    • Collaborate with service coordinators and other providers.
    • Participate in community outreach and screenings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge & Skills:

    • Child development (typical and atypical) and early intervention strategies.
    • Developmental assessments, program planning, and teaching techniques.
    • Crisis prevention and intervention.
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and with diverse populations.

    Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
    • Licensure with an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education or PreK-3 from the Virginia Board of Education.
    • Experience working with developmentally delayed infants/toddlers.

    Certifications & Requirements:

    • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record (for those using personal or agency vehicles).
    • Adherence to confidentiality and ethical standards.

    Pay: $28.55 per hour
