    Position Summary/Objective

    Must be dedicated to the Mission and Vision of UETHDA and Purpose of the Head Start Program. Must consistently make decisions aligned with the best interests of UETHDA and the Head Start Program.

    The Education Coordinator is responsible for providing support, technical guidance, focus, and training to the education staff as related to Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and in child outcomes/school readiness. Supervises education staff and ensures that all Head Start Performance Standards and Federal and State regulations are met. Responsible for following Agency policies and procedures.

    Capable of mentoring and growing staff. Must be able to identify areas where staff are deficient and build trainings to amend the identified deficiencies. Must be compassionate for assisting staff with struggles and provide positive solutions to identified problems.

    Capable of incorporating technology into daily activities to be efficient at performing tasks, capturing, and measuring data, making decisions, and communicating effectively.

    Administration

    • Monitor and mentor classroom staff to ensure that safety and active supervision of children during all parts of the daily routine is achieved in order to minimize the potential for children being left alone and/or unsupervised.
    • Ensure that classroom staff use developmentally appropriate practices in the classroom.
    • Collaborates with managers, Coordinators, staff, and consultants to assist in developing policies and procedures that ensure all CLASS and school readiness needs are effectively and efficiently being handled in a method that meets the Head Start Performance Standards.
    • Monitor and ensure that all environments where the children are present meet health and safety guidelines and when necessary, instigate work orders.
    • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with vendors, Agency funders/donors, and the community resource providers.
    • Maintains systems, ChildPlus, files, etc. ensuring security of data and confidentiality of records.
    • Responsible for ensuring classrooms are properly staffed at all times.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Compliance and Monitoring

    • Must possess or obtain CLASS reliability and recertify annually.
    • Participates in the agency annual self-assessment.
    • Ensure the Education Area maintains records and data accurately and in a confidential manner.
    • Providing data for the annual Program Information Report (PIR).

    Program Support

    • Conduct site visits and share observations/findings of visits with Education Manager.
    • Become knowledgeable of all assessment tools and assist classroom staff as needed with assessment.
    • Review and analyze data, including quarterly monitoring of individual education staff and classrooms to ensure school readiness goals are being met.
    • Assist classroom staff and families with the transitioning of children to preschool and/or kindergarten.
    • Assist program in recruiting children and families.
    • Collaborate with outside agencies to advocate for the needs of Head Start families.
    • Work closely with the Education Manager to collaborate, share and implement ideas and processes to support the larger vision of the Program and the Agency.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    • Supervise education staff.
    • Support education staff in the area of documentation and proper use of the child and family database.
    • Coordinate education efforts for regional and program-wide opportunities.
    • Provide support and training for education staff in all areas of their job duties.
    • Facilitate the resolution of conflicts and actively promote a cooperative team environment.
    • In conjunction with the Education Manager, will assist with investigations of policy violations with classroom staff.
    • Promote a consistent exchange of information.
    • Determine and build appropriate training programs for staff.
    • Encourage and support fatherhood involvement.
    • Provide mentoring and encouragement to support staff in meeting their full potential.
    • Fairly and honestly evaluate staff performance and, when necessary, build corrective action plans designed to assist staff in overcoming obstacles that are hindering job performance with the goal of long-term success of staff in achieving Program’s purpose and meeting the Agency’s Mission and Vision.

    Work Environment/Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

    Additional Benefits:

    • Healthcare through the State of Tennessee. UETHDA pays 100% of the monthly premium for the Employee Only (estimated cost paid by UETHDA for the employee is over $600 per month ($7,200 annually). Additional insurance coverage is available but cost difference will be paid by the employee.
    • Dental, Vision, Short-Term, Long-Term Disability and Voluntary Life Insurance options are offered at 100% cost to the employee .
    • Group Term Life Insurance for employee paid by UETHDA at 100% for coverage of 1.5 time the yearly wages
    • Retirement Plan--Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS). Eligible employees are required to contribute 5% of yearly wages (pre-tax basis to the defined TCRS plan). UETHDA contributes an amortized amount as determined by TCRS. Employees are vested upon 5 years of eligible service.
    • Additional 401(K) and 457 Savings Plan also available without employer match.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time exempt position. UETHDA strives for our staff to be able to maintain a work - life balance. Typically, this position will be 37.5 hours per week working Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. However, due to the nature of this position, some work in the evenings or on weekends may be necessary from time to time or an adjusted schedule may be required.

    Travel

    Travel is primarily locally during the business day, although some out of the area travel and overnight is expected.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development (no other degrees are acceptable per OHS Performance Standards).
    • Two or more years of experience as an Early Childhood Teacher.
    • One year’s experience in professional level management and supervision of staff.
    • Experience in working with culturally diverse clients.
    • Intermediate computer skills to include Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
    • Working knowledge of local community resources in job area.
    • Knowledge and experience in business and human resource practices.
    • Prefer experience using ChildPlus.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication with experience in verbally sharing data with management, Advisory Boards, and outside groups.

    $1,948.41 semi-monthly for Bachelors in Early Childhood Education or Bachelors in Child Development

    $2,053.39 semi-monthly for Masters in Early Childhood Education or Masters in Child Development.
