Job Description
Job Summary:
The Assembly Technician position is responsible for fabricating electro-mechanical subassemblies and products in accordance with the assembly instructions and drawings during all phases of the production process. The Assembly Technician will regularly provide recommendations to the Production Manager and the Engineering Department for consideration such that the manufacturing process can be continually improved with successive batches of manufactured products. The Assembly Technician is responsible for assuring that assembly work is performed in accordance with quality procedures as specified for each subassembly or final product.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensures all assigned work is performed in accordance with company safety procedures and policies;
Visually inspects Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) for physical defects such as broken or missing leads, excess solder, holes in sealing material, uneven wound coil, coating and plating blemishes, oil leaks, faulty welds, scratches, cracks, chips and other workmanship criteria per IPC standards;
Rejects faulty assembly, part or component and record type and quantity of defects;
Notifies Production Manager when inspection data exceeds acceptable limits or when major incidents of poor quality are noted;
Troubleshoots non-conforming or non-performing assemblies to the component level;
Trains and assists other assembly technicians to increase their skill level;
Maintains proficiency in the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and performance specifications;
Communicates effectively and frequently with project engineers on findings and potential root cause failures;
Promotes a positive work environment for all production employees;
Performs other duties and tasks that are assigned by the Production Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or equivalent military background and training;
IPC-A-610B Soldering Certification preferred but not required; however, soldering small components onto PCBA’s is required.
3 years related product assembly experience in an electronics manufacturing environment;
Experience with satellite transceivers, with a strong Radio Frequency (RF) background is a plus;
Ability to use measurement devices such as multi-meters, calipers, thread gauges, etc.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work to achieve daily objectives;
Must be Results-Driven;
Proficient with Microsoft Office products;
