Our new Electrical Distribution Designer II is responsible for creating and modifying designs for electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground networks, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. This position requires experience in analyzing project requirements, preparing construction documents, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver reliable and cost-effective solutions. Your responsibilities as an electrical distribution designer include designing these electric systems to avoid overload and prevent outages. You may update existing systems or create networks from scratch for new commercial builds, as well as collaborate with engineers on a design project. You use various computer programs to track deadlines and project progress. You may have to make reports to update other relevant departments on the progress of the project.
Responsibilities as an Electrical Distribution Designer II include the ability to: • Perform field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private utility systems. • Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground routing projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design. • Develop and prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables. • Perform various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations. • Perform drafting with AutoCAD and/or utility proprietary design system • Stay current on safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications for this position must consist of: • Associate Technical degree or 4-year non-technical degree. • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in electrical distribution design. • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in written documentation • Provide guidance to junior designers or drafters. • Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and industry practices.
It would be great if you possess: • Knowledge of electrical distribution theory and familiarity with the National Electric Code (NESC) preferred • Electrical network distribution experience
