Our new Electrical Distribution Designer III is a senior-level position responsible for independently creating, reviewing, and managing designs for complex electrical distribution systems. This role involves leading design projects, providing technical expertise, mentoring junior designers, and ensuring compliance with company and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of distribution systems, advanced technical skills, and experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities as an Electrical Distribution Designer III include the ability to: • Develop and manage complex designs for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, including high-voltage and multi-phase systems. • Perform advanced calculations, including load flow, voltage drop, and fault current analysis. • Prepare and review detailed design drawings, construction plans, and material specifications using CAD and GIS tools. • Serve as the lead designer on large-scale or multi-faceted projects, coordinating with internal teams, clients, and contractors. • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure efficient and timely delivery. • Conduct field surveys and site assessments to validate design feasibility and ensure compliance. • Review and approve designs created by junior designers to ensure adherence to company standards, client requirements, and regulatory codes (e.g., NEC, NESC). • Monitor and enforce quality control processes, identifying and resolving design issues proactively. • Stay updated on emerging technologies, tools, and regulatory changes, integrating them into design practices. • Provide guidance and technical expertise to resolve complex design challenges. • Support construction teams during project execution by addressing technical queries and ensuring designs are implemented as intended. • Mentor and train junior designers, sharing best practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. • Participate in recruiting and onboarding efforts for new team members.
Qualifications for this position must consist of: • Associate Technical degree or 4-year non-technical degree. • 7+ years of experience in electrical distribution design. • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in written documentation • Provide guidance to junior designers or drafters. • Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and industry practices.
It would be great if you possess: • Knowledge of electrical distribution theory and familiarity with the National Electric Code (NESC) preferred • Electrical network distribution experience
