    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking an Electrical Engineer to be based in Houston, TX to support our growing Transportation Business Line Ports and Marine Electrification program. This is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background and looking to grow into a project leadership role.

    The responsibilities of this position also include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Support the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects under the guidance of the senior staff and the lead electrical engineer and in accordance with the National Electrical Code.

    • Develop of electrical system single-line diagrams including medium voltage and low voltage systems.

    • Perform Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash analysis)

    • Develop and evaluate AC/DC schematics and connection diagrams

    • Develop and summarize electrical load calculations

    • Coordinate and plan equipment layouts including sectional views

    • Assist in developing bill of materials and take off quantities

    • Size electrical distribution equipment including switchgear, switchboards, transformers, feeders and conductors, and battery systems

    • Develop and edit electrical equipment specifications

    • Develop electrical site plans, grounding plans, raceway plans, cable tray plans etc.

    • Write basis of design documents and design analysis

    • Review contractor submittals and respond to RFI’s during construction

    • Support electrical system start-up and commissioning efforts

    • Review engineering work performed by peers

    • Occasional travel to client or project sites

    • Participate in field walks and site investigations and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessary for site data collection

    Level specific responsibilities:

    • Coordinate work with the electrical design team and other disciplines to develop and complete assigned tasks

    • Gather and correlates basic engineering and design data using established and well-defined procedures

    • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving electrical power calculations

    • Propose approaches to solve new problems encountered.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • BA/BS + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

    • Professional Engineer (PE) registration

    • Selected candidate will be subject to a background check

    Preferred Qualification:

    • BS degree in electrical engineering from ABET accredited college or university

    • 6+ years of relevant design experience within a consulting or design-build firm or demonstrated equivalency of experience

    • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Texas

    • Strong familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA etc).

    • Experience with Texas and Gulf Coast region Electric Utilities

    • Experience with retrofit or brown field projects

    • Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to lead engineering tasks and interface with client, utility company, and other stakeholders

    • Startup and Commissioning Field Experience

    • Power systems analysis software experience (SKM, EasyPower, ETAP).

    • Exposure to supporting renewable generation projects

    • Success in working with remote teams
