    Job Description

    ITW Hartness is looking for a Summer 2025 Electrical and Controls Engineering Intern. The Electrical and Controls Engineering Intern position is for candidates interested in developing their skill set in electrical design for automation equipment and machine-based automation and control theory. The position involves the use of CAD design software, learning the function and use of electrical control components, and understanding the industry standards that govern machine design. A successful candidate must be comfortable working with a team in an office environment and performing hands-on work.

    This position will be based at our headquarters in Greenville, South Carolina.

    What you will do:

    • Obtain electrical and controls engineering design and hands-on experience creating world-class secondary packaging equipment by understanding and assisting with the execution of a customer or R&D project.
    • Design control panels utilizing CAD software.
    • Develop and create PLC programs for machine centers.
    • Interface HMI programs with PLC and system functions.
    • Create and maintain I/O lists used to coordinate electrical design with program design.
    • Read and maintain electrical schematics.
    • Research and implement industry standards.
    • Become familiar with business process and product improvement skills and use those tools to innovate, reduce costs, optimize processes, and develop solutions for our customers.

    Job Requirements:

    • Actively pursuing a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics from an accredited university.
    • Exposure to CAD software and PLC programming.
    • Ability to work alone and with others to develop new concepts and solve problems.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Have a methodical and logical mindset thought process to perform root cause analysis.
    • Proficient with common Microsoft office suite programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
