    NEEDED: Electrician

    LOCATION: COLUMBUS CIVIC CENTER 400 4th St, Columbus, GA 31901

    HOURS: As Needed/ Event Driven, 7 days a week, Monday-Sunday, 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM

    DRESS CODE: Black or brown shoes and black pants

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Changes light bulbs and ballasts; replaces faulty receptacles, switches, contactors, breakers, motors, and belts.
    • Assists plumbers, HVAC technicians, telephone technicians, and representatives of the prison maintenance department and the civic center maintenance department as needed.
    • Repairs cell locks and sliding doors.
    • Performs plumbing and minor HVAC duties as necessary.
    • Repairs kitchen equipment and fire alarms.
    • Determines supplies needed to complete tasks.
    • Supervises and transports inmates.
    • Assists with sporting events and special projects such as Christmas lighting and community festivals by installing and maintaining temporary electrical services as needed.
    • Installs electrical outlets. Knowing how to connect cam-locks.
    • Repairs or replaces speaker controls, cameras, monitors, and electric motors.
    • Must be able to work late at night if needed.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of electrical supplies and materials.
    • Knowledge of supervisory techniques.
    • Knowledge of national electrical codes.
    • Skills in reading voltage meters, blueprints, and electric schematics.
    • Skills in electrical wiring, pipe running, wire pulling, and transformer hookup.
    • Skills in the use of hand tools, voltmeters, and amp probes.
    • Skills in oral and written communication.

    Educational and Training Requirements:

    • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
    • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
    • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

    Physical Requirements:

    • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching.
    • The employee frequently lifts light objects, occasionally lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of colors.
    • Must be able to work in high areas up to 70 feet.
