Position Overview: DS Smith is seeking a skilled Electro-Mechanical Technician to join our team in Columbia, South Carolina. This crucial hourly role ensures our manufacturing operations run smoothly by maintaining and troubleshooting equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical skills and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely troubleshoot, repair, and maintain manufacturing equipment.
Install new machinery and ensure all operations comply with plant policies and procedures.
Work with machinery such as motors, pneumatic/hydraulic components, conveyor systems, and production lines.
Read and interpret diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications.
Utilize hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments.
Address all mechanical and electrical maintenance issues throughout the plant.
Perform additional duties as required.
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years of mechanical and electrical maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or military environment, or an Associate or technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Systems, Instrumentation, Electronic Technology, or related field.
Proficiency in working with conveyors, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, and fabrication.
Experience with PLCs, HMIs, AC/DC motors, drives, encoders, resolvers, control systems, bearings, gearboxes, and drive systems.
Ability to read electrical and maintenance schematics/blueprints.
Proficient in diagnosing mechanical and electronic systems using various tools and computers.
Willingness to work in high or confined spaces, loud/noisy, hot, humid, dusty, greasy, and high-volume environments.
Ability to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks (lifting, pushing, pulling, walking, climbing, and stooping) for extended periods, with or without accommodation.
Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA standards.
Competent in using computer-based systems and software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Flexibility to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as required.
Willingness to share and gain knowledge from other technicians and machine operators.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in the corrugated industry.
3+ years as an industrial electrician or maintenance mechanic.
Current certification or an Associate or technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Systems, Instrumentation, Electronic Technology, or related field.
