Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Business Development Manager (BDM) in our Marketing department, reporting directly to the Director of Business Development.
The position will reside in the Los Angeles office and will be responsible for and implementing the business development strategies and tactics of Akin Gump’s Corporate practice, with a particular focus on the firm’s Global Project Finance and Renewable Energy practice. The BDM is expected to have knowledge of corporate transactions, including finance, M&A, and capital markets transactions, and develop a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses. The ideal BDM is a creative thinker, and is passionate about identifying and driving opportunities for revenue growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Corporate and Project Finance practice’s strategic plan
- Manage pitches, proposals, and responses to RFPs, and related research and follow-through
- Research, analyze and drive the strategy on client growth opportunities
- Collaborate with other members of the Marketing and Business Development team to facilitate information-sharing and cross-selling among practices
- Keep apprised of market, client and competitor trends, and disseminate information on key developments and actionable information as appropriate
- Identify and implement opportunities for thought leadership and content marketing
- Evaluate and coordinate speaking and other visibility efforts
- Assist with the ongoing collection, maintenance and accuracy of our experience database
- Develop and update marketing collateral, including pitchbooks, practice descriptions, attorney biographies
- Assist with event execution
- Respond to various industry awards, surveys and directories
- Assist with maintenance and updating of mailing lists
QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a marketing-related field. Advanced degree, JD or MBA a plus
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the legal or professional services industry
- Prior experience working at a law firm, accounting firm or other professional services firm, or at an energy industry participant
- Knowledge of the energy industry is preferred but not required
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- A client service-oriented approach
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and manage workload, work independently and as a member of teams, and complete tasks under time pressure, and in a fast-paced environment, as necessary
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to follow-through
