    JOB DESCRIPTION

    TITLE: Emergency Medical Technician

    General Summary: The Basic EMT shall deliver basic life support under direction of the base hospital Emergency Department Physician. The Basic EMT will insure that the proper treatment is given in accordance with National Scope of Practice, State of Michigan protocols, and local Medical Control Authority while keeping confidential the nature of his/her dealings with the patient.

    Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Responsible for the legible, accurate, and timely completion of all reports, including PCR and billing documentation.

    2. Maintain response readiness to all calls according to First Response E.M.S. response time criteria.

    3. Will perform all duties in a courteous and proficient manner keeping in mind the health and well being of the patient, partner, and the obligations as an employee of First Response E.M.S.

    4. Required to report to work and all mandatory meetings or educational events, on time at the hour specified.

    The employee must be alert and able to perform his/her duties during all shifts. 5. Responsible for keeping all First Response E.M.S. vehicles clean and ready for deployment in accordance with policy and procedure. 6. Will remain current on all company policies and procedures, federal, state, and county protocol changes as effected by scope of practice. 7. Must possess the physical strength necessary to perform his/her duties as defined in the physical requirement for the position. 8. Must be proficient in operating equipment in all conditions or positions. 9. Will perform other duties as assigned.

    Working conditions:

    Outside work, inside work, exposure to elements, exposures to dangerous situations, considerable physical activity in the form of lifting, carrying heavy loads, bending, squatting.

    Knowledge, skills, experience required:

    1. Michigan Licensed Emergency Medical Technician

    2. American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Course.

    3. Maintain current certifications and licenses applicable to this position. Certifications and licenses must be kept with the person at all times while on duty, must be able to present the credentials to any representative of management when requested.

    4. Must maintain an acceptable driver’s motor vehicle record.
