    Job Description

    NBC Connecticut is looking for an Engineer to Support the local stations by maintaining electronic and digital equipment to support News production and other on-air broadcast and streaming requirements. The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities.

    • Troubleshoot complex ENG systems, SDI video routers, microwave systems, ENG Vehicles, Cellular Bonded News Gathering systems as well as other broadcast & production systems
    • Strong understanding of Newsroom Control systems and automation workflows
    • Read schematic diagrams and troubleshoot analog and digital equipment to the component level.
    • Troubleshoot and respond in a timely fashion to maintenance needs

    Basic Requirements:

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in broadcast maintenance engineering
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience with digital microwave transmission systems, fixed and portable as well as digital encoder systems
    • Working knowledge ENG and Satellite transmission maintenance and repair
    • Knowledge and experience in studio switching systems, automation control, graphics systems and audio systems in News, production, and on-air environments
    • Working knowledge of analog and digital IFB and PL communication systems

    • Must be willing to work in West Hartford, CT
    • This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement between the Company and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). The successful candidate will be required to join IBEW if not already a member and remain a member of the union in good standing.
    • Must be willing to work overtime, evenings, and on weekends with short notice, and respond to emergency calls.
    • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
    • Must have the ability to stand, walk, bend and lift up to 30 pounds, carrying up to 25 pounds for up to half mile at a time
    • Must have a valid driver’s license
    • Must have a valid CDL or the ability to obtain one

    Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Possess the ability to prioritize and work independently with a high degree of detail
    • Familiarity with ENG and streaming and encoding technologies
    • Working knowledge of laptop editing
    • Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations
    • Deep knowledge of test equipment operation for diagnosis of all digital and analog signals
    • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, prioritize decisions, act decisively and successfully execute multiple assignments concurrently
    • Ability to communicate at all levels
    • Ambition to seek out new solutions utilizing creative problem solving
    • Believes that teams are smarter and more dynamic together
