Praxis is seeking a part time intern to turn into a full-time position.
Key Responsibilities
Prepares preliminary and final engineering plans and exhibits using computer-aided drafting techniques. Prepares basic engineering calculations.
Primary Duties
Prepares and draws engineering plans and exhibits as directed.
Makes corrections to drawings directed by Project Engineers, Engineering Associates, and Project Managers.
Works with company standard styles and formats . Uses appropriate scales for enlargement and reduction.
Helps maintain the drawing files and hardcopy files in good order.
Able to perform basic engineering calculations in support of Engineering Associates, Project Engineers, and Project Managers.
Position Requirements
Education & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. An in progress B.S. degree in civil or architectural engineering or related field is preferred. No specific experience requirements.
Motivations: Desire to work in Civil/Structural engineering discipline.
Skills and Competencies: Familiar with basic structural engineering terms. Demonstrate entry-level competency in the use of computer-aided drafting tools. Able to work under close supervision and follow written and verbal directions. Able to communicate effectively.
Supervision by Others: Work is closely supervised, particularly at entry level. Requires step by step explanation of drafting and calculation procedures. Progress review at completion of each step.
Position Preferences (not required)
Coursework: Timber Design, Steel Design, Shallow Foundations, Retaining Wall Design, Structural Dynamics, Structural Seismic Design, Engineering with Excel.
Motivations: Desire to stay on the central coast.
Skills and Competencies: Able to self-teach new CAD skills/techniques, modify dynamic blocks, update templates, and help develop new templates. Proficient in Bluebeam.
Experience: Previous work experience in a deadline-driven field (engineering or non-engineering)
