    The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) is the public transit authority responsible for planning and constructing Skyline, Honolulu's rail transit system. It is the first fully automated, driverless urban light metro system in the United States and represents the largest public infrastructure project in the history of Hawaii.

    Skyline's route is approximately 19 miles, with 19 stations, along Oahu's southern coast, and it is being constructed in three segments. The first segment, from East Kapolei to Aloha Stadium, is already in revenue service, with the next segments planned to extend service from Middle Street, through downtown Honolulu, to the Civic Center Station.

    This internship offers a unique opportunity to practical gain hands-on experience and training through various assignments under instruction, relative to your area of engineering specialty, to learn the responsibilities of a professional engineer.

    What You'll Do

    • Participate in a variety of projects that interface with the design and construction, project controls, core systems, or quality assurance/quality control segments, to deliver a high-quality rail transportation system for the City and County of Honolulu
    • Conduct construction site inspections and record observations and findings
    • Assist in project operations, including data collection and analysis, construction management, report preparation, and researching construction costs and price data to prepare independent cost estimates
    • Support our team of professionals and incorporate academic knowledge into hands-on work
    • Mentor with industry experts to gain valuable knowledge, develop new skills, and establish a network of business contacts

    Qualifications

    • Current enrollment in an undergraduate program (civil, mechanical, construction, or structural engineering) at an accredited institution on a full-time basis
    • Completion of at least two years' engineering curriculum
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
