    Job Description: English Teacher

    ** Summary Description**

    The Pine School seeks a full-time Middle School English Language Arts teacher to join our dynamic faculty. This position involves teaching engaging and innovative lessons to 6th and 7th-grade students across five class sections while also serving as a 6th-grade homeroom advisor. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for literacy instruction, a strong understanding of adolescent learning, and a commitment to fostering a love of reading and writing.

    Collaboration is essential at The Pine School, and this teacher is expected to work closely with departmental and grade-level colleagues to ensure a vertically aligned and highly effective middle school English language arts curriculum. The ideal candidate will cultivate strong student relationships, create an engaging classroom environment, and use data to enhance instruction, while actively contributing to faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives. The position reports to the Middle School Director.

    The Pine School middle school teacher supports the mission of the school and involves the students in his/her classroom in active learning and meaningful interaction in the subject matter.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Teaches a full load of classes or instructional minutes as defined by the appropriate division.
    • Serves as an advisor or assumes an alternative responsibility.
    • Follows or collaboratively selects long-range goals and short-term measurable objectives in alignment with the School’s curriculum.
    • Identifies and implements various instructional strategies to best serve the students in the classroom and follow any student educational plans.
    • Prepares instructional resources for use.
    • Develops and delivers the lesson and provides practice and summarization.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and pedagogy.
    • Monitors and measures student progress systematically.
    • Documents student progress through report cards, grading, and narratives.
    • Provides constructive feedback on student progress and uses assessment results to improve instruction.
    • Manages class time and student behaviors by establishing age-appropriate classroom procedures.
    • Fulfills professional responsibilities each year.
    • Attends and participates in grade/division/School-wide events and PINE community activities.
    • Holds parent/teacher conferences, with regular parent touch points.
    • Maintains consistent and timely communication with parents, colleagues, and students.
    • Supervises students as assigned by division [e.g. car line, lunch, study hall, events, etc.].
    • Chaperones field trips, off-campus education trips and other out-of-school student activities as needed.
    • Engages in professional development and growth.
    • Contributes to the School Community and Culture.

    Qualification Requirements

    • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred.
    • 2-5 years of teaching experience, preferably in independent schools.
    • Knowledge and understanding of best practices in educational technologies.
    • Successful track record of collaboration and working with a wide range of learners.
    • Outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented and excellent time management skills
    • High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an academic atmosphere with both adults and children.
